On my work table sits a Lenovo IdeaPad L340 which won’t boot.

Pressing the power button will turn on the power light and I can hear the CPU fan, but no manufacturer’s logo on the screen, or on an external screen.

I’ve tried the Novo button that is supposed to start the laptop in diagnostic mode. It turns on the power light, but still nothing on screen.

The person who brought this to me said he saw some text on the screen and thought his computer was hacked, so he turned it off. I think he did this in the middle of a BIOS update.

Any ideas for other things to try, or any way to recover from a trashed BIOS?
    Thanks in advance,

The Lenovo IdeaPad L340 is a series, i.e. a model range, not a specific model itself. More info needed… what’s the specific model?

Have you tried connecting an external display then pressing the NOVO button?

      Model 81LY.

Yes, I’ve tried an external display while pressing the Nov button. No picture.

I’ve also tried unplugging it and holding the power button for 30 seconds before powering on.
