How to remove a wrong file one has just attached to a new AskWoody comment?

Is there a way to remove a file that one has just attached to a new comment by mistake without asking Susan’s “user support” for help?

Thanks, in advance, for any helpful and practical advice, assuming there is a way for one to do this, and to do it all by oneself.

Ex-Windows user (Win. 98, XP, 7); since mid-2017 using also macOS. Presently on Monterey 12.15 & sometimes running also Linux (Mint).

There is no way for the User to remove a file they have attached.
Post a request in the thread, and one of us will remove it for you. 🙂
Be sure to specify the name of the file you want removed and a link to the post #, so the wrong one doesn’t get trashed.

There are two files attached to it, one is the wrong one.

The name of the wrong file is:

Hubble-at-sunset.gif

 

Hubble-at-sunset-1.gif  is the correct file (notice the “-1”); this the one I want to have in  the comment, so please, leave this one and remove the other.

Oscar if you are still in the edit window, just chose edit, delete the wrong file info and add the new insert. I just did that after a really weird file showed up instead of what I wanted inserted.

Did you used white magic or black magic? Or maybe green magic (for love potions, so not likely)?

Because what you describe is what I did and that did not work, so I had to ask for help and PK came to the rescue in person and also explained that lowly users like YT cannot do that, something in total agreement with my own and painfully gathered empirical evidence. So, please, recommend to me the right color.

You can remove the file if you haven’t yet submitted your post.
You can delete the wrong attached file and re-attach a new file.

I don’t know why you can’t seem to do this. I am assuming that you were still in the edit window (time wise) and went back to edit your post and deleted the line in the edit window for the image and then attached another. Oh wait I am thinking of another scenario that would be different from mine I usually use the ‘insert into content option maybe you did not do it that way. I will test!

Oscar I just did a couple of trials and the ability to do this may be time related. I am suspecting that if ones sees the Current Attachments box as shown below it will be too late.

Wavy, I have done it fairly soon, but not right away, so maybe that’s the reason? I’ll give it a try in your rather enigmatic “Test” thread I saw a while ago, and find out this way. Conditional thanks.

The way to go is to not use the ‘Attach’ file method in the first place.
Use a file/image hosting site and you have more control of what you can do with a file/image that is on show in the forum.

The ” ‘attach’ file method” works for me, particularly now that, if I attach the wrong file, I can then remove it. It is for free and I don’t have to set up an account with my personal identifiable information somewhere to get and attach a, maybe, fancier picture.

So: to each, their own.

Write a comment, attach a file with a picture, submit. Then edit the comment before an hour and a half has gone by. Before submitting again, look at the very bottom of the page, the last of several blue  lines in the left bottom corner says “Remove”. Click on this. Submit. Look at what you get.

I’m actually aware of what can be done when the Edit option is available.
My question was can you remove the image in the post that I have pointed to above?
I suspect that you can’t remove it because you have used the ‘Attachment’ method.
If you look at my post above:

. . . . . . you’ll see it has now gone. There is no Edit option in that post due to timing, but as I didn’t use the ‘Attachment’ method, I have more control who sees it. That’s my point.

Not having to go around opening accounts in strange places and living personal identifiable information (PII) behind still looks to me like a good reason to stick with the ‘Attachment’ method.

I replied to what you posted.
It is a major fault of this forum that posters can edit a post after someone has replied to it.
Leaving personal identifiable information (PII) behind is not what ‘I’ do.
You just might be surprised if you knew what this forum collects about you OscarCP (and of course me and others) but you don’t seem to mind that.
