I have an HP Officejet Pro 9015/9010 series All in One inkjet printer connected to my desktop via USB Cable only.

Everything was fine until it appears after I updated my Windows 10 22H2 with the .NET update KB5021089.
Now I can still send items from the computer apps to print out, but the 2 way connection that allowed the computer and printer to talk with each other to open scan, fax, printer ink levels, etc no longer works.

Clicking the desktop icon now opens the User Account Control window which asks if I want to allow app to make a change to your device – yes/no. If yes, it wants to run Device Setup.exe. Then it wants me to select to either: Connect a New Device, Convert a USB to Wireless, or Add more Software.

Device Manager shows Imaging Devices and Printers working properly. SFC scan shows no integrity problems.

I’ve disconnected the power cable and usb cable from the printer and computer, rebooted, reconnected but no resolution.

Anyone with suggestions? I really don’t want to uninstall or reinstall those huge HP printer packages.

Just to verify: In Control Panel\Devices & Printers, right click the printer, choose Printer Properties, On the Ports tab – is the connection showing USB connection?

Yes, there is a check mark in a block under “Port” that shows USB001 and the HP Officejet Printer.

I would reinstall drives for this from the HP web site.  At various times during the 2022 year i have had to reinstall drivers at least once on all of my printers.

Before going through the  process of downloading drivers that relate to your printer model from HP’s web site – windows version 10/11, 32/64bit and reinstalling printers have you tried:

Delay updates then uninstalling update KB5021089 to see if that fixes problem. The restart updates.

      OR

Turn off printer, unplug USB cables to PC, remove printer from Settings Printers and Scanners, reboot PC, reattach printer to PC via USB, power up printer and see if Windows re-detects the printer?

I would first start with the firmware update for the printer itself

I would not. A firmware update will block using 3rd party ink cartridges.
