MS-DEFCON 2:
Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it.

AskWoody PlusBeen using the site in the above title as an alternative to Google’s YouTube for about a year or so. We have avoided anything Google-related since finding out just how invasive it is- no more Google searches, no more gmail, and no more YouTube. Not quite sure how this site works, many of the pages show links to YouTube (YT) but place no cookies or site data and as far as I can see, scarf no personal info.
Starting yesterday there has been a warning at the top of each page announcing that the site will be taken down Sept. 1. So- anyone else here using this site? Can anyone explain to this non-geek just what the term “another instance” in the link means? And, are there any other non-invasive sources to find music or other files without surrendering to YouTube?

As I understand only the US web site is closing. Other instances (countries: DE, BE, FR..) will remain accessible. You can export your US data to one of the other instances.

AskWoody PlusThanks for posting.
I’m trying to get a sense of how this site works. Reading this link https://omar.yt/posts/stepping-away-from-open-source from the home page has not really helped me with that. Is Omar Roth the originator of invidio, or the sponsor of the, as he says, “main…instance” in the US?
As an occasional visitor to this site, but without an account, it’s not clear to me what my options are, going forward, for continued access to these video clips (in English), thereby avoiding the clutches of Google. Wasn’t aware that I could donate, but I am not a believer that the Internet should be free, as there are, of course, expenses in hosting a site, in addition to the work involved.
The only “data” I have are in the form of bookmarked links to various video/audio files I’d like to go back to.
