IE5.5 Locks Up

Since loading IE 5.5 I cannot get it to get past starting to download the first site. It starts OK but when I open any site (including a simple html page on my local disk) it locks up and I have to ctrl-alt-del to kill it. I have had to make Netscape my default browser as I cannot find any answer. I have uninstalled IE5.5 and reinstalled it with no success.

Any ideas please?

Actually, I would be interested in an answer to this, as I have a friend with an identical problem. Come on, anyone!

I have yet to see a profound reason to go from I.E. 5.01 to 5.5… if I were experiencing this problem, i’d dump 5.5 and revert to 5.01, at least until some of the issues are worked out.

One question tho, do you have any other web-enabled software running that might be choking I.E.?

I have tried running with no other programs running (apart from usual back ground ones). It is very odd that even a simple, local stored HTML file gives the same lockup.

you might try reverting to 5.01, I’ve never experienced issues with 5.5, but Microsoft DID remove it from thier site for a week or so, (due to unexplained errors I presume) It’s there now, so maybe they fixed something? You could try re-installing it as well..
