MS-DEFCON 2:
Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it.

AskWoody LoungerI have until Friday, March 20, to migrate my email to another program, as I received notification the support for Incredimail is ending at that time. I know email isn’t what it used to be, with the changes in communication with social media, but I still have a need for it at home and work. I have looked at several (Mail, Mailbird, Mailspring, to name a few). It needs to have the option of allowing me to download mail at MY discretion since I use Mailwasher and cannot have the email program automatically downloading messasges every time mail shows up on the server. Incredimail has a “Get Mail” feature that won’t download to my computer until clicked on, which is great. Anyone know of an email program that has this feature – without having to download each one to research?

ManagerI will miss some of the amazing searching options that IncrediMail seemed to have the monopoly on, and also the ability to get a list of the emails before download, to delete those not required, before downloading only those you wanted to see/keep.
Mind you, I only used their desktop application for a POP mail access to my accounts. By the sounds of it, you most probably won’t immediately lose that on your computer (if you have the program installed at your end). It would be wise to backup, but your urgency might not be as dire.
I’ve only found Thunderbird to be an alternative worthy of use, but it does miss many of the features IM was used for. It’s also very handy as a portableapp, for use on a USB stick.

Yeah, Thunderbird defaults to just downloading everything… the only-on-demand option is there, but even so, it’ll still start to download a message if you click on it. Tricky to delete before downloading. And then there’s the “sync only these messages” options.
Also once you figure out the interface for advanced searches in Thunderbird, well… it does have at least something.
