Inserting from clipboard into posting

Is there a how-to-do it thread for formatting postings? I have two images in an RTF document format that I want to insert in the text of a message and I don’t see how to to do that. What I get is a link to the document that can be downloaded by the reader. Suboptimal for following the story.

RTF is Rich Text Format. Wordpad, Word, etc to open.
