• Installing a VPN on a router

We have recently noticed that our Logitech Squeezebox Wi-Fi Internet Radio is delivering targeted advertising based upon our location and other user information.

    Obviously, someone is tracking us.

I do not think that we can install a VPN on the radio itself.

Therefore, is it reasonable for us to install a VPN on our ASUS router?

Yes, but that will affect all your machines and potentially slow them down / cause issues with spammy IP addresses.

Put the radio on the guest network and put up with the ads, or buy a proper router/firewall and learn about networks so you can limit what and where the radio can access.

      cheers, Paul

All of our Logitech Squeezebox Wi-Fi Internet Radio traffic appears to be flowing through  http://mysqueezebox.com/index/Home  .

I do not know the ins and outs of how our Internet radios and/or squeezebox.com operate.

We listen to a broad range of stations including: MSNBC, CNN, Fox News, BBC, France 24, Swiss radio, various Reuters streams, Bloomberg Radio, ABC (Australia), ALJAZEERA, Axios, etc.

Our concern was sparked by advertisements for tubi (or a similar streaming service) that do not appear on the MSNBC television stream.

Other advertisements seem to be targeting us because our physical location.

You get tubi ads on all of those 12+ stations?

(BBC radio stations shouldn’t have any ads.)

in other words, there are some risks & drawbacks involved when doing something like this as Paul T described.

so it’s not as simple as flipping on a light switch so to speak

      Correction

Our concern was sparked by advertisements for TuneIn NOT tubi – that do not appear on the MSNBC television stream.

Which station do you hear those ads on?

That probably means Logitech is making money by selling you to advertisers.
If you pay for this service I would be complaining, if it’s free, you are the product…

      cheers, Paul
