My internet provider (Spectrum) upgraded me from 300MB/sec to 500MB/sec (the retention department:)).

How do I check I am really getting those MB?

If I check the download speed should I get about 500 down?

Do the 500 get just to the box outside, and then they get degraded from the box outside to my House? I am in Charlotte NC.

      Hi Adrian:

I use Ookla’s Speedtest site at https://www.speedtest.net/ to check my download and upload speeds.  If I’m not getting close to the speeds promised by my ISP then a re-boot of my modem (unplug modem from power, wait ~ 30 sec, plug modem back in and allow it to re-acquire a connection) usually fixes the problem.

My internet provider (Spectrum) upgraded me from 300MB/sec to 500MB/sec

      From 300Mbit ( ~40MB) to 500Mbit (~60MB).

Stated Internet speed is only between you and your provider (Spectrum) and not between you and any other site, server, service…

The download/upload speed are effected by how many servers (hopes) the data pass from the source to your PC.

You can check that by running the command TraceRT (url/ip address)

      I used https://www.speedtest.net/  before but now I prefer https://testmy.net/ and  https://speedof.me/

Depends if you get 500MB. If Spectrum is cable, your internet speed is shared thru the neighborhood. If more people are using it, their usage might be impacting your speed.

Another issue might be if your router is old. This will impact your speed.

      He will never get 500MB/s = 4000Mb/s
