When updating to ios 16 from ios 15, does the update re-boot come back up with the new lock screen present or does it allow you the option to keep the previous ios 15 layout & picture background?

I have the background set as a picture that I no longer have and don’t want to lose it, or the ability to continue to use it.  Will the update wipe it out?

iOS 16 upgrade will save all you current settings. No changes are been made.

Your Wallpaper/background picture is saved on your iPhone as Lockbackground.jpg.

Hmmm…. How do I locate a picture via a file name on an iphone 11 ios 15.7?  I can’t see it in any of the Photo displays.

I updated to 16.1.1 yesterday from iOS 15.7.1. I had a non standard picture for my Home screen and Lock screen…I believe both had to be the same in iOS 15. Anyway, it did not change after the update to 16. When looking up how to edit, add widgets to either the Lock screen and/or Home screen, you have to change the iOS 15 picture to a standard screen or photo using iOS 16 how to instructions. https://9to5mac.com/2022/09/12/ios-16-lock-screen/
      That’s my understanding.

So in summary, after updating to the latest version of ios 16, after the restart, the lock screen came back exactly as it was in ios 15.7 before the ios 16 update.

One has to purposefully select a new lock screen set up under ios 16 to make a change from the existing one that came over from ios 15.7.

If one makes a new lock screen under ios 16, and since one can have multiple lock screens under ios 16, does it retain the lock screen from ios 15.7 as an option to re-select?

Tex 265…what you summarize is correct to my understanding.  As to your last comment re: iOS 16 retaining your previous lock screen after selecting a new iOS lock screen, that I don’t know.  Maybe it’s in the 9to5 Mac website.  I don’t plan to select a new lock screen or add widgets anytime soon (for me it was enough of a leap to update to iOS 16 without relearning too much at one time).  Besides I understand some widgets are constantly updating which is a battery drain.  Too me that tradeoff is not worth it.

      No.

You have to (re) select your old photo if you have it.
