    Good day,

There seems to be an issue with IPV6 on my HP Envy Laptop. Also, Xfinity/Comcast has been having performance issues in my area. The laptop disconnects from IPV6 and then loses connection. I know this because the internet has been rebooting more frequently and I watched the internet connection on Network and Sharing Center disappear to no IPV6 connection then come back up. Occasionally and at least several times a day the router/gateway reboots itself or loses connection for a half a second.

This issue started with the August Updates. I installed them the Sunday before Patch Tuesday and coincidentally having issues with Comcast as they sent out a notice of network performance issues. When I visit certain websites, the internet kicks out and back in and the culprit according to the network sharing center is IPV6 is kicking out and back in.

Should I turn off IPV6? My plan would be do that, as perhaps it is:

    1. An IPV6 issue
    2. Laptop issue
    3. Comcast issue/router needs replacement, etc. or network issue.
    4. Use Ethernet cord to see if the problem exists with direct connection.

Also I found the search bar in windows had knocked out and after a reset in services and a reboot, it is now working.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Windows updates are unlikely to affect your router. More likely you have a flakey router that may need replacing, or your ISP is having issues (my money is on your router).

Where are you seeing the IPV6 issue?
Home routers (most routers) provide IPv4 locally, but may use IPv6 on the internet.

      cheers, Paul

Hi Paul, I was thinking the windows update affected my laptop network card.

The issue is IPV4 is intact but IPV6 is momentarily kicking out. There have been IPV6 with Comcast before. It kicks out for a moment and may or may not make the router refresh. I can sometimes see it kick out with the network settings open and states no internet but immediately comes back.

I haven’t seen reports of that, sometimes the mere act of rebooting can trigger hardware to misbehave.  I would check with Comcast.  You rebooted the router, yes?

Hi Susan, yes I did reboot the router.

I’m doing a test to see if I do not go online and my computer is on with AV working in the background if the router reboots per the network and sharing center time and date.

You won’t use both V4 and 6 at the same time.
What happens when V6 “kicks out”?

      cheers, Paul
