I have valid license keys for Windows XP and Office XP but CDs are broken – is there any official way to download ISO images? I would like to reuse them on my old PC.

It seems possible to download WinXP Pro WITH Office 2003, directly from Microsoft.

I’m not sure they have any other similar for the Office XP, although there are numerous sites of dubious repute that will allow you to download them – at your own risk!

I did find an Internet Archive page for Office XP, which appears to have a working link for an ISO image, except some comments suggest it may not be. Also, the origin of the link isn’t clear.

      BE VERY WARY!

I have some doubts about archive.org link. I’ve checked this site and the link you gave me is not the only one version of Office XP image on this site… :/

The download link is for a .DOC file not an .ISO file.
XP and Office can be found on some torrent sites. It is important to read comments.

It’s important to be careful with sources of software (as I mentioned above). A word on torrents, from LifeWire:

      Torrents Can Be Dangerous
Before we learn more about how torrents work, it’s very important to understand that they also pose a greater risk over other forms of file sharing. You’re much more likely to run across copyrighted files and malware, plus it’s often tough to find trusted sources.

Torrents are an extremely popular way for many people to download and share files, including legitimate businesses and your everyday internet user. Torrents aren’t inherently illegal to use or create, but it’s important to remember that unless you know where to look, it’s far too easy to get involved in malicious or illegal activities.

I know about torrents but I do not use them and I would prefer to not download any Microsoft software from them as it can be packed together with some malware.

By starting this topic I was hoping that Microsoft has own official archive like Adobe – Adobe’s support has no problem to share ISO images of older version of their software as the legality is always confirmed by the user key.

          Nope. Not even close.

It looks like Heidoc doesn’t even have an official link to an official download site.

The Microsoft Developer Network (now Visual Studio Subscriptions) has those ISOs and many more – but it costs a fortune – $45/month or $1,199 for the first year.

Gee! lol, well, based on those prices I have two legitimate retail versions for sale, Home or Pro ( ker-ching!) OnlyJoking 🙂

Oh, wow. I’m so sad now. I do not understand why Adobe can share their old, already bought software via their support and MS can not.

Is there any list of files/checksums/hashes available somewhere at least? That would be very helpful to find out the proper ISO somewhere else.

I wanted to check the site you mentioned (Heidoc) as it was new to me and I found something interesting: https://www.heidoc.net/php/myvsdump_details.php?id=P56F13836Ax86Len – how come the only version of Office XP download, offered by Microsoft, is from 2007 year?

The version I have is from 2001 – what is this 2007 one? There is no mention about any Service Pack in the name. What was included here? Is it some updated official re-release of Office XP?

No matter how innocuous the websites look, these links will more than likely deliver a payload iso to the recipient. I would not go there at all, nor advise anyone to do so by supplying links.
Your best bet is to borrow legit CD’s from neighbors or friends, ask around.

I’ve already asked my friends, it’s “too old” software for them to keep. 🙁

If I’m remembering rightly, XP came on a CD disk, and had to be loaded, even if you bought the computer with it. E-bay has numerous disks for sale, some with, and some without keys. I’d think a used disk would be the safest alternative… if it was truly an original disk, there is no way to add malware to it.

when ordering an ISO disk for Windows XP and/or Office XP on eBay be careful.
some are legit and a few others are not.

ask the seller(s) or eBay to confirm or verify the authenticity of the WinXP or Office XP CDs they offer.

note to Lex the OP: you need to know which edition(s) of Windows XP and/or Office XP that you want (which you did not specify on your very 1st post)

what edition of Windows XP do you need? WinXP Home, WinXP Pro (Professional), Media Center, Tablet PC, etc.?
also what edition of Office XP do you need? Standard, Professional, etc.?

I have my own complete boxed retail versions of Windows/Office XP – both Professional,  English and 2002 versions (without any Service Packs) – sadly CDs are unreadable. 🙁

            • #2272499

There are CD repair kits (turntable, liquid, cloth). You don’t have anything to lose if you try it.
They sell them at the Office Supply and computer/electronics stores here (US).

Is it possible the CD drive is dirty or broken, not the CDs?  Some computers can boot from an external CD/DVD drive, or used replacement drives may be cheap.  If the drive can read some other CDs then no.

      • #2272675

That drive is able to read other CD/DVD.

        • #2272929

just buy a DVD drive replacement since the anonymous user before me said they’re cheap and affordable. I had to change the DVD-RW drive on my longtime friend’s old eMachines T5048 desktop PC using WinXP Media Center edition 2005 several years ago when the DVD drive could no longer read any CD & DVD disc despite cleaning the DVD reader lens or the CD/DVD disc themselves. the new replacement DVD+RW drive on his computer can read any CD/DVD disc

if the old internal CD/DVD drive cannot read any CDs & DVDs anymore (due to wear because of frequent use or the drive is faulty), it would be best to take it out and put a new one
