I’m getting a lot of questions from people with Win10 version 1803 who wonder if they’re doomed to upgrade to Win10 1903 in the next few weeks. Micros

I jumped from 1803 to 1809 about a month ago to avoid this very headache. The only problem I’ve had with 1809 so far, is that it will sometimes for no reason freeze up and nothing works. The keyboard freezes, the mouse freezes, can’t do anything except control + alt + delete and restart. other than that small bug, 1809 has been working just fine and if it’s not too late, I would recommend 1809 over 1903 any day.

If a person is on 1803 and running Home version, I’d like to know WHY they haven’t received 1809 before this.  That’s my concern.

My 1803 Home with metered=on didn’t upgrade to 1809, but I now get the 1903 notification – not going there yet.

      cheers, Paul

I’m on 1809 now. I won’t need a Notification in Sept.-Oct. I’ll just get on board with 1903 before it gets swapped out at the official download site for 1909 or whatever that one is going to be called.

I am getting the 1903 nag every time 1809 is updated. According to the Softies:

      https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/13853/windows-lifecycle-fact-sheet

1809 will “timeout” on May 12, 2020 so we can ride it out until then. Curiously, 1903 timeouts just seven months later on December 8, 2020 and there is no OS listed after that!

As a sidebar, I’m about to update a Windows 8 laptop to Windows 10. Does anyone know what version I will get if I use the Softies “Windows Anytime Upgrade?” Or even if that will work? I tried it with my Windows 7 [just for S&G] and this is what I got:

      Your browser is out-of-date
You need to update your browser to use the site.
Update to the latest version of Internet Explorer

      Windows Anytime Upgrade not
      Available
      Applies to: Windows 7

LOL. So updating to the latest version of IE [which I have] is a red herring!

You should still be able to get the free upgrade. You should be upgraded to the current Windows release version (i.e. the May update, aka 1903) of the same SKU.

Thanks Joe. A couple of strange things have happened over the past week. Two or three days ago, my WIN10 x64 laptop running 1809 stated that 1903 would be installed and to pick a date (not optional) so I picked September 3, the last date shown.

Today, I got an update to 1809 and now Windows Update is back to the nag screen, “When you’re ready…” I see no evidence of it forcing 1903 on September 3. I wonder what happened?
