• iTunes update just now Windows 10

I just got a popup on my Windows 10 screen that iTunes wanted to update for SECURITY REASONS. I let it update which was fast. I now have iTunes 12.12.3.5 on 21H2 software.

But I can find very little about this update. Even Apple support does NOT list this version! Neowin says it is available but nothing about it.

I really like my iPhone XR and my Apple watch but I also like my Dell XPS desktop computer. I feel discouraged that Apple can’t even put up anything about this update on Apple support. I’m tired of Microsoft and Apple still not playing nice with each other.

There is still no update for iPhone or Apple Watch.

Maybe I just have poor search skills when it comes to Apple products on Windows…anyone have more information?

It might eventually show up in this list: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201222

Note that Apple says “For the protection of our customers, Apple doesn’t disclose, discuss, or confirm security issues until an investigation has occurred and patches or releases are generally available.”

On that page, the last entry for iTunes is 12.12 back in September.

Also, since macOS Catalina did away with iTunes, it seems like eventually the Windows version is going to be the only one that remains (as older version of macOS go out of support).

Apple security updates – Apple Support

It may not have security fixes.  It is just out today. Typically they release after a new product event.

There seems to be a bit of confusion at Apple on this.  If you follow a search result “iTunes + download”, you get to a page that offers the option of going to the MS Store, or of downloading from Apple.  I have had odd results in the past with Apple files from the Store, so preferred to take it direct from Apple.  That link still gives iTunes version 12.11.3.17, which seems to be about 12 months old.

The iTunes version for Windows before this current one ALSO forced you to download from the Microsoft store rather than from Apple. This is why the version you see at Apple is a year old. I agree that the versions obtained directly from Apple (when that was still possible rather than the Microsoft Store) were better and I lament the fact that since the version before the current one we have been forced to use Microsoft Store only for the versions.

I’d like to know how Microsoft Store became the ONLY source for Apple downloads for Windows users. Did Microsoft get nasty and force this?

The store is the (new and annoying) way to get Itunes.

I found that one can still download I-Tunes from Apple instead of using the Microsoft store.

You go to the Apple I-Tunes site, it will tell you to get it from the Microsoft Store but if you scroll down on the page just past the Macbook, you will see Looking for other versions? macOS   Windows.  Click on Windows and you will receive a link for the latest version from Apple.

      Not necessarily

See “About the security content of iTunes 12.12.3 for Windows” at Apple Support:
