    KB4023057 tries to download over and over, although it is already installed. Each time, the download fails. I have now deleted it (Program Control). It still fails.

      Microsoft re-releases that fix for windows update components each time there is a feature update soon to be released. Have you tried manually downloading it from the catalog site?

      I deleted it when this was suggested on another website.

      I tried manual download, to no avail. When I try, I am told that I do not have sufficient privileges although I am using an admin account.  Also, “Windows Remediation Service” disappeared from the list.

      Later updates have installed correctly and no other issues.

      Will the 21H2 upgrade solve this when it arrives?

      Workaround for failing updates (in general) can be:
      * Launch services.msc as admin
      * Stop service “Windows update”
      * Rename C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution to SoftwareDistribution.old
      * Go to Windows update in settings and click “Check for updates”

      SoftwareDistribution folder will be recreated and updates are going to be downloaded again.
