Dear friends, I am attempting to install KB4556799 on a Windows 10 1909 Home system. The fix downloads 100%, but then does not start installing. Any thoughts on how to address this? The Other May fixes installed OK.

Did you click on “Restart” in Windows Update?
What “Active Hours” do you have set? If you don’t click on “Restart,” it will not start the install during “Active Hours.”

Thanks for the feedback. I did confirm that I was installing the fix during non-active hours. The other May fixes installed. I did restart the machine, but nothing installed. (Cut to the Chase!). After creating this post, I started the download/Install sequence again. The download completed and then it seemed to sit for 20 minutes or so while I ignored it, and then it installed. The machine has restarted and a cursory check seems to suggest it is wokring nominally

I might presume that the indication that the download was 100% complete was premature.

So, I appear to have reported a severe case of normal operation.

I am having a similar problem also on Win 1909 Home. KB4556799 downloads , attempts to install running to 100% installed, and then fails. I tried changing my active hours and I tried restarting. I tried pausing updates and then resuming them: it looked for updates, found KB4556799 again and failed the same way.  The other updates this month worked fine. I don’t see any driver updates.

Have the previous months’ Cumulative Updates been installing OK (May KB4349951, April KB4540673)?
If the answer is yes, do the following:

          First, verify file system integrity:
+ Open an elevated Command Prompt – in the searchbar type “cmd.exe” (without quotes), right click on the file and choose “Run as Administrator.” Run these commands you can copy/paste the commands to make it easier):
+ chkdsk /f (it will ask you if you want to run the command after reboot, answer “Y”)
+reboot. Note any errors it finds.
+ Open an elevated Command Prompt and run (noting any errors):
          + DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
          + sfc /scannow

Next, reset Windows Update. Run these commands in an elevated Command Prompt:
          + DISM /online /Cleanup-Image /RevertPendingActions
          + net stop wuauserv
          + net stop cryptSvc
          + net stop bits
          + net stop msiserver
          + Ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.2006
          + net start wuauserv
          + net start cryptSvc
          + net start bits
          + net start msiserver

Let me know if there were any errors.
Use File Explorer to verify that the folder SoftwareDistribution.2006 exists.
          Reboot

The May Cumulative Update KB4549951 failed as well. I have never had a problem before that.

one error 0x800f081f the source file could not be found. The SoftwareDistribution folder was there at the end.

I tried the update again and it worked. Thank you very much!!

KB4549951 is not a May cumulative update, skheinze
it is an April cumulative update
