Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it.

I just got the same thing on my update check this morning. I’m going to hold off for now and see what Woody has to say about it.

Alex5723,
I have added NOTHING in the last few days that would have given the need for this update.

Alex5723 Wow! Thanks for the link!
When I had a new hard drive installed in 2017, I never reinstalled my webcam.
I just reinstalled it last week so I can have video chats with my children via Facebook messenger due to the “stay at home” recommendations.
It is an older Logitech Webcam C160.
I haven’t had any issues with it however.
So, do I apply the KB931906 or leave well enough alone?Edit to add:
I did install it with the original software that came with the webcam.-

You can safely install the new driver if you want.

AskWoody MVPI tend to research updates… just like you. I was curious, so went to Microsoft Support.
CAPICOM is a Windows component that provides services to programs that enable security that is based on cryptography. This includes functionality for authentication that uses digital signatures, for enveloping messages, and for encrypting and decrypting data.
I tried to follow Microsoft’s link for Home users- but they have blocked me, having decided that
Your request pattern matches an automated process. To eliminate, reduce the volume of requests over a period of time.
I am a fast reader… but this is ridiculous to block the very first link clicked on… and five minutes later I can still access the initial page, but not the one for home users.
As it looks like I’d have to close my browser and clear my cache to access… I’ll leave it up to you.

AskWoody_MVPhere’s the old MS security bulletin MS07-028 about the KB931906 (CAPICOM) security update (posted at Microsoft Docs instead of the old MS Technet security site):
