Laptop powers off during KB5026361 update

My Sony Vaio VPSC31FM shuts down during the installing phase of the KB5026361 update. When it is powered back on, the install starts again, then the machine powers off, etc., in a loop.

How do I interrupt this loop, and what is the fix?

That sounds more like a power supply issue.  Is the battery removable?  You can boot into safe mode, and delete the software distribution folder, but if the root cause is battery/power supply it will probably turn off quickly anyway.
