Local network not working

I have 3 machines working in a Local Network.
Windows XP Desktop
Vista Laptop
Windows 10 Desktop that started out with W8.1

I had my printer connected to the XP machine and each box could access it. Because of degradation in performance I installed the printer on the Windows 10 machine.

Now I can’t access the printer from the Vista machine. It asks for a User ID. It won’t accept any of the User ID that I know. I do know the password for the Windows 10 machine. Is there some way to ‘divine’ the User ID that is being sought? Nor can I access the Vista Machine from the Windows 10 machine as I previously was able to.

If your printer is networkable, the easiest way to share it among all of the computers is to connect it directly to your router, either via wifi or with an Ethernet cable. (You will know that it is networkable if it has either an Ethernet port, or wifi capability.)

Basically, when you install the printer software on a computer, you tell it that your printer is a network printer, and then follow the directions from there.

You could get a Network Print Server adapter for the Router and plug the printer into it. It would alleviate the need for whichever computer is plugged into to remain always on.

In addition to just accessing the printer I still desire the ability to move files between the various machines and their storage devices. While the printer is problem #1, it isn’t the only problem I want to solve in networking.

Solved my own problem – didn’t have the W10 machine configured correctly with it’s network identity.
