“On September 29, 2023, Netflix will ship its final DVD in the mail. We’ve always loved entertainment and that little red envelope remains an enduring symbol of our mission to make it better for every member. DVDs will forever be in our DNA.”

Kind of a sad time for those of us who liked to dive deep into Netflix’s DVD\Blu-ray inventory of content that either isn’t available on streaming or if it is requires yet another monthly payment to another service for access.

I top loaded my queue awhile ago with titles I’d like to have to keep. Now I’m waiting to see if any of them show up in a possible “up to ten” final shipment(s), if I get any at all.

I’m curious if anyone has received any of the possible “up to ten” final shipment(s) Netflix said they would be shipping to clear out their inventory . . .

I have bought a lot of DVD’s from Best Buy and now Amazon, and am especially glad these days to have them so I have something to watch on TV besides reruns of British shows on PBS and commercial laden reruns of Star Trek on H&I.

Have you seen the price of Tums? It's enough to give you heartburn.

We often enjoyed the special features that typically came bundled with the DVD/blu-Ray disc (actor/director interviews, “The Making Of”, alternative endings, etc.). I miss those.

Best Buy to End DVD, Blu-ray Disc Sales

The consumer-electronics retailer will phase out sales of DVDs and Blu-ray discs both in-store and online in early 2024, according to industry sources familiar with the company’s plans. Best Buy made the initial decision to end DVD sales nine months ago, according to one source…

“To state the obvious, the way we watch movies and TV shows is much different today than it was decades ago,” a Best Buy spokesperson said in a statement to Variety. “Making this change gives us more space and opportunity to bring customers new and innovative tech for them to explore, discover and enjoy.”..

IMHO that’s a bad decision on their part. People still buy DVDs for the kids to watch in the car on long trips.  Then there are still people like my wife and I who buy them so we can watch old movies and TV shows without the annoying commercials or adverts which are very frequent and annoying these days.

I am sad as well, much more selection in their DVD/BR disks. I am thinking another big chunk of change that the Post Office will be out, used to have hampers everyday.
        😥

Just because you don't know where you are going doesn't mean any road will get you there.

Also wondering if anyone has gotten any of the “up to ten” discs that might be coming yet?

      None here . . .
