I current have Outlook 2013 and have a huge archive in PST format that I would like to convert to something that can imported to Mozilla Thunderbird.

I use a desktop computer (Windows 10) where I keep all of my files and I would like to move some things to a new laptop (Windows 11).

Someone recommended MailStore Home (MSH) but it doesn’t quite do what I want.   I would like to convert my Outlook PST file on my desktop and load it in Thunderbird on my laptop … and update it occasionally.

Can anyone recommend software that will do this?

    Thanks

I expect you will be able to import the PST, but not update it, unless you use Outlook.

To import the PST you need Outlook installed, otherwise it’s a (probably paid) program to convert.

Current version of TB no longer supports importing of PST files – that’s why I was looking for some software recommendations – even if there is a slight fee.  I tried MailStore Home but it doesn’t quite do what I want.

Have you looked for an extension for Thunderbird that does this? At one time I believe ther was one. May be a lost cause now?

      This used to work.

Import PST file into Windows Live Mail using Live Mail import functions.
      Then
Import Windows Live Mail into Thunderbird using the Import/Export extension for Thunderbird. Instructions at the link below:

I have Mozilla TB no longer has anything that converts or imports PSTs.

Why not use your current Outlook to export the emails to a .csv file?
You should be able to do custom mapping of the fields if that is necessary.

Contacts would have to be exported in another step.

Edit: I just re-read your OP where you said you want to update it occasionally. Some kind of 3rd party software might be a better choice then.

Outlook won’t let me convert the entire PST file in one step … at least that I can figure.  Plus I have a 20 year archive of important emails in my PST file.

I know that the calendar and contacts are done separately.

But I’ve never had a problem doing all the emails.

Is it balking at the size or quantity of emails you have?

You can pick and choose which folders you want to export

Does converting a folder to CSV also include attachments and and subdirectories within a folder?

I couldn’t answer that with confidence so I just tried an export/import test and it is giving me errors. I’ve tried it 3 different ways with small test folders/subfolders but it keeps failing. So I don’t have an answer for you. Sorry

But since I see you said you want to update it occasionally, some kind of 3rd party software might be a better choice anyway.

Then I suggest you pay money for a product that works properly, or buy Outlook.

Note: watch out for rogue PST converter software, it is a hot malware field.

Thanks everyone for your advice.  I have SysTools products in the past and I know they have a “SysTools PST File Converter” software that I will have to check out that is less expensive than spending $500 for one time install of MS Office 2021 Professional.

Does MS still sell multiple installs of their MS Office?

      I didn’t think Office 2021 Home & Office included Outlook.  I don’t want to pay for Office 365 – I hate subscriptions

Office Home and Business 2021 is $249.99 USD from Microsoft. It includes Outlook. Note that it is for 1 PC/Mac. You may find it cheaper elsewhere on the internet. Here’s the MS link – Buy Office Home & Business 2021 (PC or Mac) – Download & Pricing | Microsoft Store
