When I first installed Macrium Reflect, it created a C:\Users\<username>\Downloads\Macrium folder on my Win 7 x64 computer.

For some reason Macrium patches don’t download and install reliably, forcing me to download a new version of the v7.#.#_reflect_setup_free_x64.exe for each update.

I’ve now got seven setup_free_x64.exe files, and one pe3x64.zip file, taking up 609 MB. Can the old Macrium exe files, and the pe3x64.zip file, be safely deleted?

I assume so, but wanted to confirm with other Reflect users.  Thanks.

I don’t have that directory on my W8 PC – I can’t see where updates are downloaded to.

The setup files will be just that, set up files. You can always delete those.
The “pe3” file may be the Windows PE environment files for creating boot disks. I would leave that.

      cheers, Paul

Do you ask for updates using reflectdlfull.exe? (applies for Macrium Relfect v7, earlier versions are different)

For me, that downloads the update (v7.2.[ver_no]_reflect_home_setup.exe) into a folder, checks my licence status, and then runs it.  And, yes, this download folder contains quite a few (more than you describe) versions of the update.

You speak of free versions, I speak of checking my licence status, and that may be the difference.  I have found Macrium quite the best backup program I have ever used, and do not begrudge the licence fee.

      What happens is:

      1. Reflects tells me there’s new version available
      2. I click the “Download” button of the dialog box
      3. A reflectPatch.exe file gets downloaded to my %localappdata%\temp folder
      4. More times that not, the patch fails to install
      5. I then download ReflectDLHF.exe, the Macrium Reflect Free program installer from http://macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx
      6. Running ReflectDLHF.exe downloads another setup.exe file to the C:\Users\<username>\Downloads\Macrium folder

There seems to be no autocleanup of the old setup.exe files, and the new ones keep getting bigger and bigger.  The last one was 97 MB.

      My last update -reflectPatch.exe – was 99MB, in %temp%

Yes, I agree that the update is huge, going from v 7.1 to v 7.2 involved an increase in the update file size, from ca 67 MB to ca 99 MB.  I’ve never found that Macrium offers to clean up old versions from the temp folder, so that’s up to you.  If you’re short of HD space, you may need to be pro-active.  Paul T reports downloading into %temp%; I clear temp files every few days anyway.

      Thanks everyone.

I use Macrium Relect free, and the last few updates within the product have run without any issues.  Currently on 7.2.3858.

It’s the best imaging program I have ever used, and have been imaging for almost 20 years, using PowerQuest’s Drive Image, Norton Ghost (acquired PowerQuest in 2003), Acronis True Image, Windows 7 Image, and Macrium.

I also use and recommend Macrium Reflect Free, have an unused key for Acronis 2018 but nobody wants it free of charge.

On my 6 month old Windows 10 system, the reflectPatch.exe  in %localappdata%\temp is about 25MB.

I haven’t run ReflectDLHF.exe but once. The patches never fail, on this machine or 4 others here, one is running Windows 7.

There is a rather large (588MB) Macrium folder, ProgramData\Macrium\Reflect, but I think that’s mostly PE stuff for the boot disk/partition. My pe3x64.zip file is only 139MB. Once you burn the Macrium boot disk (PE), you don’t really need that file on your HD. However, certain Macrium updates contain fixes that apply to the PE so you’d have to make a new pe3x64.zip file anyways, to burn to a new PE CD, boot partition, or USB drive.

Your pe3x64.zip file does seem rather large though. Too bad you can’t register on their support forum unless you paid for it, but that probably cuts down on spam and idiots considerably.
