Just Feature upgraded from Win10 21H2 to 22H2.

Using Macrium Reflect Free ver 7.   Created my Rescue Media Builder usb back when on Build 19041 (Win 10 2004?).  This was the last time Macrium advised I needed to update my Rescue Media.  It has never since advised that I need an update through 20H2, 21H1, 21H2, and now 22H2 Window 10 upgrades.  Rescue Media screen Status shows “OK” with the usb inserted.

Is this OK?  (I guess since these versions share commonality?)

Or should I “force” Macrium to create a fresh Rescue Media usb?  And if so, how?

Not a big deal. Why not update it?
Likely it’ll work. I’ve used rescue media from different computers and those worked.
OTOH, I have an Acer/Intel that will NOT make a usable RM for it no matter what I do. It’ll boot, and I “think” the required functions are there but the screen size is completely wrong so I can’t get to the controls.
I found a RM from a completely different Intel PC that works properly.
      Go figure.

It’s not required to rebuild your Rescue Media USB, but is generally recommended to build one from each PC that you are using Macrium on (and test it). The bootable USB is self-contained and boots its own version of Windows PE or RE, and the Macrium software version that it was built with. The Rescue Media has no dependency on the OS installed on the PC.

So the USB should continue to boot the same hardware that it has always worked on, regardless of the version of Windows that is installed on the PC, or even whether there is an OS installed on it. Any OS on the PC remains offline when booted via USB.

It’s probably a good idea to update the Rescue Media whenever Macrium advises, as they may have included some bug fixes or performance improvements to the Macrium program running in the Rescue Environment.

When you do rebuild the Rescue Media, you should probably use a new USB stick, and keep the old one as backup until you verify that the new one actually works!

      Hi Tex265:

One word of caution. If you are using Macrium Reflect v7 then this product reached end of support on 18-May-2021 and end of extended support on 18-Jun-2022 (see https://www.macrium.com/product-support-policy).  The v7.x release notes at https://updates.macrium.com/reflect/v7/latest_release_notes.asp show that the last product update for this series was v7.3.6391 (rel. 18-Nov-2021).

Is there any particular reason why you haven’t upgraded to the current Macrium Reflect v8? Back in Jan 2022 when I was still using Macrium Reflect Free v7.3.6391 I ran a check for updates (Other Tasks | Check for Updates …) and the offered upgrade to v8.0 went smoothly. The v8.x release notes are available at https://updates.macrium.com/reflect/v8/latest_release_notes.asp.

Your MR boot USB is for the hardware, not Windows, so it will still work perfectly well.

The only time you may have issues is if you change hardware, but short of a motherboard change, I can’t see anything that would cause problems.

      cheers, Paul

Watch Macrium “Fixes-Improvements” Release Notes for — RED Font notices  — “IF This Issue Affects You — Create Fresh Rescue Media” …. This 11/6/21 example is the most recent I see – so not that often………..
