• Magic Jack Software Removal – How To?

In his blog ( https://www.askwoody.com ) Woody Leonhard recently posted an entry about Magic Jack. It seems that the device (a USB plug-in fob for Internet Telephone services on the cheap) installs software onto the host computer which has no uninstaller. Issues have been reported with regard to privacy and possibly security, as well as ethical questions about the Magic Jack company’s business practices. (See Woody’s blog and links to original articles for details.) So, many who had installed Magic Jack on their computers have been wondering:

Is there any way to uninstall or remove the Magic Jack software from a computer if someone no longer wants to use the device?

I tried twice to post this question at Woody’s blog, but my comments were never posted. Does anyone have a solution to the Magic Jack software removal issue?

Thanks for the speedy response and the web reference.

The article gives three methods, all of which involve editing the Registry and messing with Application Data Folders.I prefer not to do these things, and my 92-year-old father would NEVER get through these steps successfully.

Fortunately, buried in the Comments, it turns out that at the Magic Jack website, there actually IS an uninstaller available, as of late-2009. You have to download and run it, and there may be one leftover shortcut after it is run. From the Comments, I quote:

      ”jacked up said…

Currently, an uninstall utility is available for download at the MagicJack.com website.
It can be found by searching the FAQ for “uninstall”

I could swear it “jacks” with my other programs and causes hinkies in my other processes.
It seems great at first but then my other programs start to hiccup. I have removed!

I would follow up with a Registry cleaner and a system cleanup utility, like CCleaner.

      Hi :

I would look into using Revo Uninstaller, available at
      http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html .
The “Freeware” version may suffice, and the “Professional” version
      has a 30 day FREE Trial .

You still need the uninstaller on your computer before you can use Revo or any other super-uninstaller. So you still have to go to the Magic Jack site and download their uninstaller. Then save it and let Revo monitor the uninstall and perform its other steps to get a clean computer.
