    In an email, Musk described the employee as making changes to Tesla’s manufacturing operating system using false usernames and then exporting a large volume of highly sensitive Tesla data to third parties.

    Things I don’t understand…

    1: how can “highly sensitive” data even be accessible?

    2: how can “large volumes” be downloaded without alarms being raised?

    3: surely users movements are tracked by OS, so why are so many breaches not noticed?

      The answers to all three questions you pose are in the article you referenced above. Just keep reading through the entire article and it will explain how these things can come to be by showing various historical examples. For example, the employee was probably in a position of fairly high trust, so no one questioned the employee’s actions until they became excessive, probably.
