We do Windows 11 22H2 patching via MECM current branch.  Normally we create SUG and deployment groups of only the CU and .net updates. We also don’t download the patches to the MECM DP’s and set the deployment to download from Microsoft directly. It’s been working like this for about a year.

August patches for us are failing to install the .net update only; CU update installs okay. The error for the .net is 0x80070002 file not found. Looking at the update hander log it states the file name it’s looking for is 10d04cecb6cee1e12e83d0274b6043f1067991ce_windows11.0-kb5028948-x64.cab, but the file that gets downloaded to the client cache is named windows11.0-kb5028948-x64_10d04cecb6cee1e12e83d0274b6043f1067991ce.cab. I renamed the cache file on one system, and it install okay.

For testing we downloaded the .net update to the DP’s when its download by the MECM SUG the name is 10d04cecb6cee1e12e83d0274b6043f1067991ce_windows11.0-kb5028948-x64.cab, and clients install that patch okay. The CMG only clients still download from .net patch from Microsoft directly with the wrong name and fail to install the update with the file not found error code.

To me it looks like Microsoft’s metadata for WSUS and MECM is messed up for the 2023-08 .net patch. Ever seen this before?

Susan, I checked the Master Patch List for August and noticed that you are showing Firefox current Version as 166.0.2 updated 8/07/2023. I updated on the same date and Firefox is showing I am up to date with version 116.0.2. I also would like to say that you are doing a fantastic job running this website.
