Now’s a good time to re-run GWX Control Panel. t/h DC Update: It’s in the “Important” list, but is not checked for automatic installation. Yet. That’s

Nooooo microsoft! I really cannot deal with this sneaking through on our work machines or i’ll break something and then have a cry in a corner somewhere. The download alone will just cripple our internet so i’m hoping the gwx control panel settings remain in effect.

I haven’t seen that one for a while but I’ve turned off telemetry services – win 7

No “5583” but checked for updates-22 important
19 selected, no matter how tried to select “malicious…tool” only, always get 19 selected. Includes 3109094.

Yep, I saw that little sucker on the list tonight and immediately hid it again. How many tries is that now? I now have the GWX panel, I’ve backed up all my files and I’ve made a recovery disc. So take THAT, Microsoft!

I had that one hidden after I uninstalled it previously but regardless it appeared today.

It was in the Optional group on mine though, not the Important list. It’s hidden once again!

I haven’t received any major updates since Dec. 8, and 3035583 wasn’t among them. I have two of them (3035583) hidden. Just routine security updates yesterday, and not many of them.

      Windows 8.1.

One has to wonder why Microsoft is so desperate to move all users to Win 10. I can only conclude that moving to Win 10 benefits Microsoft more than the users.

ahhhh got it too 🙁 hidden again, fingers crossed GWX control panel monitoring coninues to do its job.

    • #48353

      Very likely true.

One has to wonder. I have also turned off telementary services and that patch is up there. I have hidden it again. One wonders for any Microsoft OS if turning off certain snooping functions really turns them off.

If they’re giving it away for free, then how does that benefit them? Where’s the revenue in that? Microsoft’s actions of late have not only been egregious, they don’t even make any sense!

I’m sure Microsoft has teams of people working on “monetizing” Windows 10. Don’t forget the new advertising – http://www.infoworld.com/article/2956715/microsoft-windows/privacy-and-advertising-in-windows-10-both-sides-of-the-story.html

I have that patch listed in my “optional” list, so it will be ignored like every other “optional” update. The only “optional” update that gets installed is the MSE definition update which MSE does automatically before a scan. That’s safe isn’t it?

    • #48358

Yep, the MSE update is safe. But some “Optional” updates are checked – it’s unusual, but it does happen. When checked, they will be installed.
