Since may Windows 10 update (I have a Lenovo M73 Tiny with Windows 10 Pro 22H2), almost every time I try to move a window on my screen by clicking and holding the title bar, the window is maximized, as if the one-click and hold was interpreted as a double-click. I modified the click speed from super slow to super fast and every speed in between, to no avail. The problem is worse when I use a wireless mouse ( I tried three different ones) than when I use a wired one. But it’s still there in both cases. I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers for each mouse. I changed the batteries in every wireless mouse I tried. Nothing works. And yes, Aero snap and Aero shake are both disabled. Any idea what the problem could be ?

      Two suggestions:

Be sure “Sticky Keys” is not turned on. Control Panel\Ease of Access Center\Make the keyboard easier to use.

Search for file explorer in the Windows 10 search bar, and click File Explorer Options. You will see a setting for Single-click to open an item. If this is selected, try selecting the Double-click instead and see if that makes a difference.

Thanks PK ! I’ve checked and tried what you suggested, no success. The problem is still present. Two things to take into account. The problem is worse with wireless mice. So I don’t know if the problem comes from the mouse settings or driver or windows settings. It’s very disruptive because I can’t work with multiple windows opened anymore (because when I move one it goes full screen 50 % of the time).

OK, here’s something else to check.
      Settings App\System\Multitasking
Check Snap windows settings – try turning different settings on/off

Thanks PK, but already did that. I keep it disable though because Aero Snap is not flexible enough for my needs. If the problem persists I might do an Upgrade in place to reinstall Windows without losing my programs. Gotta go now, will check back tonight. Thanks for you input. Ciao !

      Two thoughts here.

First, thanks to the suggestion from PK, go back into the Ease of Access Center and carefully review each one of the settings, section by section to make sure that they’re set to your preferences. It could be that one if them has had a setting changed due to an errant set of keystrokes you may have performed that you didn’t think did anything at the time you did them. I’m saying this from experience because I’ve has that happen on windows 7 not long before I gave it up in favor of Windows 10. Yes, it had gotten very long in the tooth, and that’s probably what contributed to my problems in addition to my wayward finger(s).

If that doesn’t yield any results, check your video driver and see if it’s fully up to date. Since the problem you’re experiencing is on the display itself (what Windows is trying to display on your screen), AND you now say that it happens only about half the time, it could be that your video driver has gotten kind of long in the tooth and is misinterpreting what Windows is trying to tell it, OR it’s giving bum info to Windows. Also, video drivers in the last two or three years have become targets of opportunity for miscreants looking to implant their cr*pware on folks’ systems using security weaknesses they’ve found in video drivers from various manufacturers.

Of the two suggestions, I’m hoping that the first one yields results for you.

Thanks Bob99. My PC is pretty old – I bought it in 2014. The latest graphic card driver I could get for it came out in 2020. I don’t think that’s the problem. All the settings in the Ease of Access section are ok. Aero Snap and Aero Shake have always been disabled. I’m going to delete the may updates and see what happens.

So… after trying a lot of things, I finally uninstalled Windows updates for May and… it worked. I can now click on the top bar of a window and move it without the window getting maximized 50 % of the time. I postponed any new updates until the of June, hoping that the next batch won’t break my mouse. Thanks for your suggestions PK.

Uninstalling may 2023 updates did the trick. Since then, I’ve installed June and July updates without triggering the mouse problem. All is well.
