Early June patcher on three Win8.1 x64 devices, Haswell/Ivybridge/ancient Merom with and without printer.
No problems to report from the Win8.1 section. Patching process went smoothly and in fact once the component store was cleared in favour of superceded patches a couple of weeks later, the OS was/is altogether more responsive.

Patched a Win 8.1 x64 machine last weekend. As per usual all went well. No printer attached so I can’t comment on the printer issue. Installed the latest SSU (KB4562253), Flash (KB4561600), and Rollup (KB4561666) patches (in that order).

I patched my Win10 ver.1909 x64 desktop this morning as the pause had expired, and no problems apparent as yet. Both the Adobe Flash Player and Cumulative Update were installed. Ver.2004 is offered as an optional update but is being ignored for now.

My Win7 x64 desktop only has 4 Office 2010 security updates to install, with the optional Edge update already hidden. I’ll install those in a couple of days time assuming there are no issues with the first machine. I had intended to upgrade the  Win7 machine to Win10 by now but don’t want to upgrade to ver.2004 until it’s considered safe and sensible to do so. I only use that machine a couple of times a week for minimal stuff.

On Win8.1 without a printer. However, my curiosity is piqued: Under “Choose how updates get installed” I have “Never check for updates”, but “Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates” has that box Unchecked. So Chredge for Win8.1 is Recommended & Unchecked when I Check for updates. If I’m curious to try M$ Edge AKA Chredge, should I add it to everything else? Or avoid it like COVID-19 or the Bubonic Plague?!

Bought a refurbished Windows 10 64-bit, currently updated to 22H2. Have broke the AC adapter cord going to the 8.1 machine, but before that, coaxed it into charging. Need to buy new adapter if wish to continue using it.

If you are curious about ‘Chredge’, don’t install it via WU to save yourself hassle if you choose to remove it later. Available over Here via Microsoft’s official web download portal.

Edit: watch out for the ‘feedback/telemetry’ tickbox on the pre-download link webpage, if you choose to leave it blank, the download starts and SHOULD adhere to the policy, don’t be fooled by the ‘I have to tick this to download it’ routine. 😉

I just opened my computer and saw it had been given the boot. I didn’t get to do the backup drill first. 🙁

The internet is working, thank Heaven, but I had to stop MS from Edging me out. What should I do for a quick check to see if anything is broken?

Thank you! I haven’t done a full check yet, but this (albeit way over my head) is very encouraging.

I see I’m still on version 1909, and I got the following updates:

They also activated OneDrive. I’d been holding off on that until I have time to study what exactly it does. I’ve been using ShareX for OCR and maybe OneDrive can handle that for me without another program installed. (I finally learned to like Snip & Sketch, so all I need ShareX for is the OCR.)

I’m confused – did they actually fix the printing issues other than that manual, not-available-for-wsus patch?

Because only a few months ago they broke Type 4 print drivers across the board, so this month breaking Type 3 drivers doesn’t give me much incentive to switch a few hundred PCs to Type 4.

I support Woody’s move to MS-DEFCON 3.

I’ve had the June Win 10 v1909 updates in for 5 days now (since 7/3) on my home office workstation after having done my own VM-based testing. So far no problems at all. I *do* use .pst files successfully on this system and have been printing without trouble. 3 days ago I installed a Super Speed PCIe-USB 3.1 card to access external backup drives and it went in so easily and worked so perfectly I was amazed. I currently have a particularly long multi-day network file transfer operation currently in progress (based on ROBOCOPY) to a machine with low bandwidth via a VPN connection and it’s solidly crunching along without fault.

TL;DR: Thumbs up from me for the June updates to Win 10 v1909 build 18363.900.

And, FWIW, I have Win 10 v2004 now on a VM and am evaluating it when I have time. That also went in surprisingly painlessly as an upgrade to v1909. So far, other than my firewall detecting it’s trying to contact more online servers than ever through some new services I’m not familiar with, it’s working too.

All that being said, for all the update hoopla I haven’t run across any new features of Windows I want to use, nor any of the several bugs I occasionally hit fixed, so I might as well just be on a single version for years. But, alas, the requirements of my work demand that I keep my systems up to date. We wouldn’t want products to start failing on a new version of Windows while never having actually tried it ourselves.

on both win7 an win8.1 machines i didn’t see that chredge update offered…

but not a problem, i wasn’t going to install it anyway. 😀

on win8.1 there was ssu (kb4562253) offered after i hid group a patch. so on win8.1 i installed group b patch, ie, four patches for office 2010 (3 of these were security updates), defender, flash and ssu.
on win7 i installed only four office 2010 patches, nothing else available…

I got auto updated from 10/1809 Home to 10/1909 Home a few days back after manually  checking for updates and had my laptop updated to 10 1909, I then checked again and has the June 2020 updates and some AMD graphics driver and laptop hardware driver updates installed as well. So far there are no noticeable issues and the laptop was not updated to crEdge from Edge and I reading something about some update from the MS store for some store app that uses codecs that have a security issue so where is that KB number or whatever application that’s needing to be updated from the MS Store online.

And maybe I’ll look at manually updating to crEdge as well just to have the normal uninstall privileges without having to use the power-shell method!

I’m more concerned about 10/2004 pushed onto my system so soon after having 10/1909 pushed but I have noticed that 10/1909 Home has update pause and delay options that 10/1809 lacked. I really want to delay 10/2004 for at minimum 6 more months and really want more information on that WSL and it’s history on Windows 10, namely making sure that any WSL features are disabled and not installed by default on whatever version of Windows 10 that supports any version of WSL.

So was WSL 1 supported on 10/1909 at anytime, and if so, how do I make sure that that’s disabled.

Just want to assure that Win 10 home, will not automatically receive the Chredge update.

Is it under optional?

If not what am I looking for to assure I don’t install it?

I have the same question about chrEdge – who it is being offered to?

Just a few days ago, I used the trick of switching to airplane mode (disable wifi) after hitting the ‘resume updates’ to extend the pause period to stop the June updates which were then at MS-DEFCON2.

I only saw the updates for CU, SSU and for Adobe Flash Player; nothing about chrEdge.

Note: I have win 10 home 1909 (up to May updates). Successfully block updates with combo of metered connection and pausing updates. Last updates were the May ones, was in a paused state for June.
I plan on manually installing the CU, SSU and Flash updates now that we’re on MS-Defcon3, so am not worried about getting any other updates unless I choose to get them from the MS Catalog.

For Windows 7 and 8.1, everyone gets it (except Enterprise editions and domain-joined)

i never saw it offered to Windows 10, except if you are Insider on Slow or Preview ring
and only 1903/1909/2004 got it

but according to this, after July 30 all editions will get it, including Enterprise (businness) and Education

Yes. And after it installs and you reboot, you should check for updates again because the SSU KB4562030 will be offered and should be installed as well.

Have Win7 Pro SP1 with activated ESU license and installed ESU licensing prep update (KB4538483), but only updated through Jan’20.

As “Monthly Rollups” are cumulative updates, and as now-monthly SSUs should supersede prior SSUs, updating appears to require simply installing the most-recent SSU (Jun’20) followed by the most-recent Win7 CU (Jun’20). Yes?

Or is there any reason it might be necessary or preferable to install any specific prior (i.e., pre-Jun’20) SSU(s) or CU(s) before installing the Jun’20 updates? (For simplicity, please just ignore MSRT/.NET/Office updates, etc.)

The previous month’s SSU has to be installed before (is a prerequisite for)  the current month’s CU if you are doing a manual install. But you could install the current SSU before the current CU instead.

If you are using Windows Update, the current CU will be presented first and installed (if you have the previous prerequisite SSU already installed). Then you have to either install the rest of the updates in the Important list or hide them b/c the SSU won’t show up until the queue is empty. When the current SSU will appear and should be installed.

OK, paint me confused. Win10 Pro x64 1909, Haswell notebook workstation.

Did my backups and resumed updates. Said I was up to day. Last installed were May updates on 6/1/2020. Shut down and restarted. Checked again for updates. Took longer to check but still says I’m up to date. Guess it doesn’t want to give me June?

Observations? Suggestions?

Do you have a third-party update blocker still turned on?
Do you have Metered connections ON?
Do you have any deferral setting turned on? In the GUI? In Group Policy?

Ran the update troubleshooter which found nothing. Ran the system files cleanup in disc cleanup. No change. Opened advanced update settings and while it wasn’t set after resuming updates, set it to 0 days anyway. That kicked the updates into gear.

Some HP update was offered. Flash update which I never installed unless it’s a Windows component. The June cumulative also installed.

USB attached printer still works. Go figure…

Updated all 4 computers today to 1909 18363.900. No profile or printer problems on restart, so far all looks ok.

KB 4560959 (SSU included w/cum.), KB 4561600 Flash, KB 4560960 cum. update.

Don't take yourself so seriously, no one else does 🙂

Apologies if this has been answered before but last month I had an Win10 Pro 1909 issue of being forced to update to V2004 that ran lousy. Per the advice given here, I was able to restore to v1909 OS build 18363.836 which is where I am at now.

So,  has the bug that forced me to the 2004 update been fixed?  Or as I saw one Win10 user said they upgraded to 2004 ok?  I am still paused until July30 so maybe do nothing vs. risking being forced to the 2004 upgrade?

I won’t be able to do the June updates until 7/16 or 7/17.  I normally set the deferral days to 30 as per PKs instructions.  So if I change that 30 day to 20 or 25, will I get June updates only?  And then I will put it back to 30 after it installs, in order to delay the July updates.  If that isn’t right, what should I set quality deferral days to in order to get June updates only on or after July 16th? Thanks

I do NOT recommend setting Quality deferrals to 30 days. A deferral of 30 days should take you to July 8th (today). Deferrals are only available in the Pro Edition.
If you are using the Quality deferral pulldown in Windows Update\Advance options to set the deferral, you can lower that number until the June updates appear.

If you are instead talking about Pause, that is another thing. If you end Pause, the pending (available) updates that you cannot see will download/install.

If you have Win10 Pro, read through AKB2000016 Sections 3 and 4 for information on settings. The ones I use are in Section 4.

Win10 Pro x64 1909

Automatic Update set off through GPE.

Went to Update page, showed “Check for Updates” as per normal.  Also gave 10/2004 feature update notice that I’ll be informed when it is available.

Hit “Check.”  After trundling for a while, instead of showing a set of updates including June’s, it went directly in to DL/install the 2004 feature update (showing only one other pending, for Adobe).

If I shut down the Update page, then bring it back it resumes.

Relevant?:  my list of installed updates is …. blank.

How do I avoid 2004?

Sections 3 and 4 of AKB2000016 will explain the settings you can use to control updates in  v1909.

If it upgrades you to v2004, you have 10 days to roll back to v1909.
Or read through Section 5 of the above for the settings for v2004. The settings for that version are still a work in progress, since has not been out that long.

OK folks, a Win 7 ESU’er reporting in:

Installed 2020-06 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB4561643), rebooted, rechecked WU and found some oddities:

1. KB2020-05 Security and Quality Rollup for .NET Framework 3.5.1, 4.5.2, 4.6, 4.6.1, 4.6.2, 4.7, 4.7.1, 4.7.2, 4.8 for Windows 7 for x64 (KB4556399) was still sitting there as it was last month, “Important” but “Unchecked”. I can’t remember the last time this happened, “Important” but “Unchecked” persisting. [Susan said it was because MSFT thought my machine unworthy of it. 🙂 ]

2. No further SSU was offered, as in the past…thought you needed a new one every month now…? Could it be that something in that .NET KB4556399 is needed to trigger a new SSU?

3. No MSRT for MSE was offered; is this because MSFT is not “Supporting the MSE Platform” anymore? I got one last month…

(BTW SSU KB4562030 was installed last month.)

All SEEMS to be working well, there are just a few weirdness-es above I need some additional light shed on.

The SSU has to be installed exclusively (by itself). It will not show up in the WU Important queue unless/until all other updates are installed or hidden (the queue has to be empty).

So hide the .NET update or whatever else is there, then check for updates again. You wil get the June SSU which will be prerequisite for the July updates.

PK, did what you suggested, hid the .Net update, checked again, but there’s nothing showing in the “Important” section, and the badge is green.

As stated above and marked by Anon below, I already had the June SSU installed. I guess I was looking for the next SSU necessary for July to pop up.

(In the Optional box there’s the notorious 2019-10 Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB4524752), which I think is the nag screen for expiration (I shouldn’t even be getting this as a ESU’er)  (Also, Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8 for Windows 7 for x64 (KB4503548) is in “Optional” too, but Susan says stay away from it on Win 7 machines. Anyway, I never install anything unchecked or optional.)

Will the SSU for the July updates appear in good time, or is something screwy?

The May SSU is the prereq for the June Rollup and SO. It shows up after the May updates have been installed and the queue is cleared.

The June SSU is the prereq for the July Rollup and SO. It shows up after the June updates have been installed and the queue is cleared. If you already have the June SSU, you are good to go.

The July updates have not been released yet. Patch Tuesday is next week.

Yes, it’s unusual, but I’m also seeing this on other Win7 boxes. Recommend you continue to not install unchecked update(s).

Yes, new Win7 SSUs are arriving on a monthly basis these days, but it looks like you’re ok, as KB4562030 is the Jun’20 SSU you needed.

3. No MSRT for MSE was offered; is this because MSFT is not “Supporting the MSE Platform” anymore? I got one last month…

Please note MSRT is different and separate from MSE.

And I wouldn’t worry about not receiving an MSRT update this month – this happens sometimes. Yes, MSRT is usually updated each month, but not every month.

Also, if you manually install security updates & IE cumulatives separately from the Catalog, you’re probably ignoring the .NET Rollup. Check it & run updates if you do want to install it.

Also, for future reference, if an update is “Recommended”, not “Important” (or “Optional” but italicized in Control Panel; Chredge is an example), and under “Choose how updates get installed” or “Choose your Windows Update settings” in Control Panel, look at “Recommended updates”. If the box next to “Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates” is Unchecked, updates like Chredge won’t be automatically checked like Important updates. If the box is Checked, Recommended updates will be automatically checked like the Important ones… & installed.

Finally…

3. No MSRT for MSE was offered; is this because MSFT is not “Supporting the MSE Platform” anymore? I got one last month…

M$ isn’t sending a Malicious Software Removal Tool (MSRT) update every month now. Yes, the last 1 was for May, & the 1 before that was for March. Looks like for Win7 ESU & Win8.1, they’re sending the MSRT every other month. Don’t believe it’s because M$ “is not Supporting the MSE Platform”; Defender on 8.1 started as a MSE clone.

NTDBD is a self-described “Win 7 ESU’er”, so what you’re seeing on your Win 8.1 system is not the same as – and may not be fully applicable to – what NTDBD is seeing on Win 7. And as an earlier reply from a different Win 7 user (#2278825 above) confirmed NTDBD’s Win 7 experience, seems likely in this case that NTDBD didn’t accidentally uncheck .NET update, but is instead describing something that you’re just not seeing on Win 8.1.

Also, if you manually install security updates & IE cumulatives separately from the Catalog, you’re probably ignoring the .NET Rollup.

At the top of his post, NTDBD states this: “Installed 2020-06 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB4561643), rebooted, rechecked WU and found some oddities”…
So NTDBD clearly installed the current cumulative “Monthly Rollup” for Win 7 using Windows Update. NTDBD is not manually installing security updates & IE cumulatives separately from the Catalog.

Windows 10 1809 Home here and still using wushowhide + metered connection to decide what and when is installed in terms of updates.

In view of the MS-DEFCON level raised to 3 I loaded wushowhide to unhide the updates I want to install and in particular the June CU for 1809 (KB4561608) and… Surprise! The June CU is no longer visible at all in wushowhide, nor it is offered if I check for updates after having disabled metered connections.

I noticed that among the hidden updates in wushowhide there is also the “Feature Update to Windows 10 1909”: I did not recall when it was first offered, but since I intend to stay on 1809 for a few more months (following MS decision to move EOL of 1809 Home to November) I hid it. Well, this offer of the Feature Update seems to be the “trigger” that causes my system not being offered the CUs for the currently installed Win10 version.

This already happened to me when I was on 1803 and had the update to 1809 hidden by way of wushowhide: whatever CU I had hidden in wushowhide disappeared the moment 1809 was offered and the following months I would no longer be offered the CUs for 1803 and had to manually install those. I was again regularly offered the CUs through WU after the update to 1809. Interestingly, the way I’m remembering this, it also happened starting with the June CU last year…

I’m going to download the June CU from the Update Catalog and manually install it (BTW, a new SSU – KB4562562 – was released and needs to be installed before the June CU in case anyone else has to do the manual installation).

Frankly, the need for manual installation because WU stops offering the monthly CUS once it has determined that my system is ripe for pushing to a different Win10 version is annoying and I’m wondering whether it’s just another way for MS to “force” me to update to 1909…

When you hide the current CU with wushowhide, and it supersedes a previously hidden older CU, the older CU will disappear (b/c the older CU is contained in the later CUMULATIVE update).

Even v1809’s updates were extended by till Oct (?) by MS, v1809 is technically (near) EOL, at which point MS tries to force install the next version (which superseded the older version BTW). So, the v1809 CU is going to disappear from wushowhide hidden list if you hide v1909.

Then, it looks like all I can do to stay on v1809 until its EOL is to keep hiding the v1909 update each month and then manually install the v1809 CU when woody gives the “all clear” to patch.

BTW, just in case it is useful, I understand that MS extended the v1809 updates till November 2020 (included), see e.g. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4561608 near the top of the page where in the “Important” message it is stated that:

“The final security update for these editions of Windows 10, version 1809 will be released on November 10, 2020 instead of May 12, 2020.“

I’ve had those since June 10th. No issues.

Except that a weird little issue of a previous update spontaneously disappeared. As in: https://www.askwoody.com/forums/topic/bug-in-win10-file-explorers-list-view/#post-1993372 . The descenders in [List View] are back.

From 2004 (20H1) not a peep though. That’s still below the horizon.

This morning I went to adjust update pause date to get June updates. The pause was on until 7/13/2020, but when I checked Windows Update there was no resume updates button and upon checking history none of the June updates have been installed. Instead I had a download button showing an update for Windows Defender (screenshot attached). So I went into advanced to change the pause date. It wouldn’t let me pick today, so I chose tomorrow.

My question: Is the download button (attached) I’m seeing gonna do the same as the check for updates button that we are told never to push?

Do not click “Check for updates.” It is not the same thing as the “Download” button.

The “Download” button is there because you have set “notify download/install” in Group Policy.  That usually keeps the updates from downloading until you click on it. They just sit there where you can see them.

BUT, you have also used “Pause,” and there may be a caveat. There have been reports that when the Pause period ends, not only the June monthly updates, but the v2004 Feature Update downloads and installs. If you read AKB2000016, In Section 4 it says:

Pause – I do not use the Pause settings in Win10 Pro because the other controls are more trouble-free (are less of a hassle).
**NOTE: If you use the above setting, and you then Pause any updates pending in the queue afterward, the paused updates will disappear from (are not available in) the Windows Update queue, as expected. Since wushowhide uses the Windows Update Service, if the updates are not available to Windows Update, they will not be available to be hidden by wushowhide, and any hidden updates will disappear from the hidden updates as well.
If you then Resume updates, or the pause period ends, the paused updates will download/install. Under these conditions, they do not respect the “2” (notify download/install) setting. But pre-pause hidden updates will again be visible in the wushowhide hidden update list.

So I would suggest you read over Section 4 and set the FEATURE deferral pulldown in Windows Update\Advanced options to 365 days. Reboot then wait a day or two. You will have to remove the Pause to be able to see/install updates.

Thanks for replying. I went and reread section 4. I prefer your strategy since you can see what’s coming and defer with wushonhide. I set feature deferral to 365 with no other settings enabled in gpedit. I changed the pause to end tomorrow and I won’t reenable for next month. I’ll keep checking windows update until I can see/install updates. Thanks for your help PKCano, greatly appreciated.

I experienced the caveat last month. I didn’t pay attention to when the pause would expire and when Woody said to install last month I went to remove the pause, but it had already expired and was downloading 2004. I tried it since it was there and I had issues with Outlook, so I uninstalled via recovery. I don’t want to go through that again. It happened on all four computers.

Don’t forget the “2” (notify download/install) setting in Group Policy (the only one I recommend in 1903 and 1909). That keeps the updates in the queue till you choose to install.

June patches installed with no problems to report on Win 8.1 🙂  Only minor issue is that once the Rollup was installed, WU offered it again but, as you can see, the Rollup did install successfully. However, after a reboot, the Rollup was gone with the SSU offered. So, all was good.

Unsure….! In late May I patched as suggested by woody but had several issues over a couple of weeks? Wouldn’t stay in sleep mode, random shut downs etc. I thought an added RAM chip might have been the problem but in or out same problems..Used the image made prior to May patch. All is good. Paused until yesterday so I imaged and then installed(stopped pause) Had a bad time of it. But finally finished and said up to date. Last check 21June! So see attached screen shots please and if anyone can tell me does this look like the complete list of what I should have gotten? Sorry if this is confusing but I just am at a loss esp since it’s been a long time…. in dog yrs-(me)

Looks like you got the June monthly CU and SSU, Flash update, the .NET and the Intel Microcode patches. That should be all unless you also get Office patches through Windows Update.

I just checked Susan’s Master Patch List for the status of Office 2010 and found Defer on all the June Office 2010 updates.  I’m glad I checked again as I was getting ready to download and install 5 of these from my Win 7 WU!

What’s the story for Office 2010 on Win 7?  Go or No Go for June?  I was under the impression there were no worries on Win 7.

Windows 10 Home x64 1909 – June updates for SSU, CU and Flash completed manually – no issues detected so far Tested printing (ancient Canon Pixma/connect by USB port) – seems fine.

Re CRedge – I currently have MS Edge 44.18362.449.0.
I use it rarely, FF is primary browser.
Seems like there are lots of questions on this in other posts. But since it’s come up here, several questions come to mind:

1. Is it better to install now (download from MS) rather than get it pushed via WU by that July 30th date???? I read something about you can un-install it if you get it from the download, but can’t if it’s pushed.

2. Does it co-exist with the old MS Edge? Or does old MS Edge get removed?

3. Does it impact Chrome?

1. Supposedly you can uninstall it if you download and install it from MS rather than getting it through Windows Update. But there have been reports here that say you can’t install it either way (except through PowerShell commands).

2. After you install CrEdge, the old Edge becomes inaccessible (except through difficulty). The old Edge is not removed.

3. It doesn’t impact Chrome.

I have some questions about the various versions of Edge
I installed the June CU patches on July 12 and now Apps & Features shows:

1. Microsoft Edge Update was installed on the same date as were the June updates. The Start Menu apps list does not list it. It doesn’t seem to be something that will execute, so what is it?

2. I checked Microsoft Store for downloads on July 15 and evidently it installed or updated Microsoft Edge Beta. Is this the same as Microsoft Chromium Edge (Chredge)? The logo looks the same, except for the Beta across it.

3. Microsoft Edge is the legacy version, right?

The Edge Beta you have installed is one of the channels for Chromium Edge. The version of Edge with the plain white icon on a blue background is the legacy version of Edge. Edge Update is the program to update Chromium Edge. It is run by a scheduled task. Chromium Edge is updated on its own schedule independent of Windows.

The Edge legacy version is still working on my machine, even though the Edge Updater installed the newest version of Edge Beta.

That must be a difference between Edge Beta (an Insider channel) and the Chromium Edge that is not in the Insider channel — i.e, that Edge Beta does not take over Edge Legacy.

The Edge Beta on my machine is now 84.0.522.39 and I have read the the non-Beta non-Insider Chromium Edge is 83.0.478.64 Does that mean that the Edge Beta is experimental (testing new features that will later show up in the non-Beta version) and therefore is less stable?

I have read that that the non-Beta non-Insider Chromium Edge, if installed by Windows Update, cannot be uninstalled. But, in Apps and Features for Edge Beta there is an ‘uninstall’ button. So, is that a difference between the two, as well?

I am trying to decide whether to keep Edge Beta or instead, uninstall Beta and install the non-Beta non-Insider version.

I have just discovered that although the (Chr)Edge Beta icon is on my Desktop, the shortcut for it is not listed in the Desktop folder.  On the other hand, the Legacy Edge icon is also on my Desktop, but the shortcut for it IS listed in the Desktop folder. { I don’t have stable (Chr)Edge installed.}

Why does the shortcut for one appear in the Desktop folder, but the shortcut for other one does not?

The shortcuts for all of my Desktop icons (for folders, for programs/applications, and for URLs) are in the Desktop folder — all except for (Chr)Edge Beta.  Seems odd to me.

Installed the June Windows patches on a HP EliteDesk 800 G2 (P4K19UT#ABA) Desktop running Windows 10 Pro, Version 1903, yesterday.

Just after installing the updates the computer lost its LAN connection.

Restored the PC from a restore point created the day before the Windows 10 update. Still no LAN Connection.

Took a look at our router, an ASUS RT-AC3100, and discovered that the WAN light was red meaning that the router had, “No IP or no physical connection.”

I unplugged the router and then the modem. Plugged in the modem and waited five minutes. Plugged in the router and waited five minutes. Reconnected the computers and the LAN connections was restored.

Since the router went down immediately after installing the June Windows 10 updates, I am wondering if the update was the cause of the WAN problem or was it a coincidence.

Any thoughts?

Try installing the update again and find out.
Once is coincidence, twice an issue somewhere.
At least you know how to rectify, should it happen again.

For now I intend to let the sleeping dog lie and not reinstall the June Patches on the HP EliteDesk 800 G2 right-away .

But now, on another system, a HP Envy Desktop 795-0050, running windows Windows 10 Pro, version 1903, after updating Microsoft Office Home and Business 2016 with the June updates I am getting an advertisement in the banner of Outlook telling me to try Office 360 and store my data in the cloud.

NO WAY. I am getting very tired of Microsoft intruding into my system for their own commercial purposes. It is a waste of my time and a distraction from the work I should be doing!

I have the machines setup the way I want to use them and do not want to be fiddling with them because of Microsoft’s intrusions and lack of quality control.

I just upgraded Win 10 1909 Pro to Win 10 2004 Pro two evenings ago (after taking a Macrium image, of course, and then holding my nose).

Well so far so good! Nothing weird and everything working well so far.

I use Firefox as my default browser.

But I do occasionally use Edge for a few sites. When I first opened it in 2004 it opened to a landing page with only a big download button for the new Edge (Chredge), I assumed that might be the only option.

Then I found that by opening a page from my favorites list that I was still using the old version. It popped up a nag for the new one, but I clicked it away with “remind me later”.

So anybody using Chredge yet? Any pros/cons? Known issues?

I updated a Windows 10 Pro v1909 virtual machine running on VirtualBox on a 13-inch MacBook Pro. Unlike others I opted to patch via the Microsoft Update Catalog, because I don’t trust Windows Update. Update completed without a hitch.

I then updated a Windows 10 Home v1909 Acer laptop. The HDD meant that the update took many magnitudes longer, but it too also went successfully.

Both are now on build 18363.904.

No issues so far.

Hi.

I have Win8.1 Pro on a Thinkpad. Windows update showed me only a Windows Defender definition update in Critical updates. No SSU and no Monthly Rollup. I downloaded and manually installed the most recent SSU, restarted, and Windows Update still gave me no Critical updates.

Should I manually download and install the June 9 Monthly Rollup KB4561666? I will note that I recently updated this laptop from Win7 Pro to Win8.1 Pro, following instructions from PKCano; all Monthly Rollups prior to Jun 2020 are installed. Any other advice for getting Windows Update to work correctly?

In Windows Update click on “Change settings.” Set the pulldown to “Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them.” Click on “OK”

Thanks for the suggestion. I have always (Win7, now Win8.1) had WU set to “never check” and I do it manually when advised on AskWoody.

I gave the altered WU settings a try but the monthly rollup still doesn’t show itself.

Is there any harm in manually downloading and installing the June 9 Monthly Rollup KB4561666 and hoping that WU fixes itself on its own time (or hoping that Microsoft will start paying me for my IT services on my wife’s computer, and also throwing some cash your way for your IT services for all of us)?

As I noted before, I did a fresh Win8.1 install a few weeks ago and used WU (and your instructions) to get it fully updated without issue. It’s odd to me that WU is acting weird now, but perhaps not surprising.

May patches were the final step in my recent Win8.1 Pro clean install and went fine.

To answer the next post, I manually downloaded and installed the Jun SSU (when it didn’t show up in WU), then tried WU with no CU update appearing (only a Win Defender definition update), before posting my question to the forum.

I then tried PKCano’s suggestion of changing WU settings and still didn’t get any June Critical updates.

I am now manually installing CU KB4561666 and Flash update KB4561600 and will check WU again to see if anything comes up after that.

Manual download/install of KB4561666 (followed by reboot) and Flash update KB4561600 (followed by reboot) were successful.

WU then showed no critical updates.

Guess I’m done for now and will see what next month brings.

Install the SSU mentioned by @PKCano first and by itself, reboot, and then see if the June update is offered by Windows Update. If it is, then you’re all set. If not, then just install it manually, rebooting afterwards.

The monthly rollups are contingent upon having the correct SSU installed before WU will offer them to you these days.

Here are my results for June 2020 Win10 patches (no problems):

Win 10 Pro x64 v1909, with settings as recommended by PKCano (Group Policy set to Notify for download/install):

After making an image backup, clicked the Download button to install KB4561600 Adobe Flash and KB4560960 June Cumulative updates.

Both patches installed, and Installed Updates also shows the SSU KB4560959 installed, as expected.

No problems with printing or anything else so far.

I haven’t seen v 2004, since I have feature updates deferred for 200 days.
I also haven’t seen the Chredge update, not that I want it. Is it considered an optional update so that feature deferral also controls that? Or will Chredge just show up whenever Microsoft decides to send it?

Manually downloaded June security kb4560960 to save satellite data allowance. I ran the install on my HP Envy laptop, but after trundling for a while, it was not installed.

I ran the same update on my ASUS X470-Pro machine and it installed. Upon the reboot I got the Welcome to Windows dialog box, which I promptly skipped. Printer works fine.

I am not sure what’s up with the laptop. WuMgr listed the update when I updated the database, but, as noted, it failed.

You also need to download the Servicing Stack KB4560959. Install it first by itself and reboot. Then install the CU. You always need the SSU if it is released the same month as the CU (there may not be a new one each month).

Be sure you get the right bittage for your computer (32-bit or 64-bit). The wrong one won’t install.

Thanks. Funny it didn’t show up in WuMgr and 960 worked on my AMD box, but not the Intel laptop. I just updated and checked WuMgr and 959 is not listed, even in the hidden update list. I did get it from Micro$oft and ran the install. I’ll reboot and try 960 again.

Installed all of the June updates, and wushowhide is not working for me on Win 10 home 1909. I hid the updates that I did not prefer and they installed anyway. The new Edge installed, so far no issues and a bunch of HP updates. At this point the best way  for me to handle updates, is to pause, which have done so now until 8/15/20 in order to assure defcon acceptable. At that time I’m sure the updates correct themselves or provide an update to one that not working properly.  I do miss Win 7 and the total control I had over the updates.

Also, no featured updates were noted at this time for the Win 2004 and also did NOT check for updates. I let the computer do it by itself since that pause from last month expired.

So far so good, no issues, thanks for listening.

On both of my Win10 Pro laptops, I installed the June CU KB4560960 today July 12. It had been hidden ever since it was released in June and I unhid it early yesterday July 11. I have the GPE setting at 2=Notify download/install, Quality Deferral=0, but the Download button never seemed to appear, although the WU screen said that it had checked for updates long AFTER I had unhidden the CU. After checking wushowhide to be sure that no other updates were in the queue, I hit the “Check for Updates” button. The update went smoothly on both machines.

I did notice something different on one machine, though. The blue Restart screen which says something like “Working on Updates, xx% complete, do not turn off your computer” had an additional line which said something like “Your settings are managed by your organization”. I know this message about “settings being mangaged my your organization” appears on the WU screen, but I’ve never seen it before when restarting after an update The other laptop did not have this additional line on the blue restart screen.

I found it odd that it appeared and then only on one of my Win10 Pro machines (both DELLs, both Inspirons, both i7s).

Short version of my question: After using the Windows Recovery Environment, Troubleshoot, Advanced Options, Uninstall Updates, Latest Quality Update, how can which update it removed be determined?

On my Windows 10 Home version 1909, Update History, Quality Updates, shows two “Successfully installed on 7/12/2020”:

• 2020-06 Security Update for Adobe Flash Player for Windows 10 Version 1909 for x64-based Systems (KB4561600)
• 2020-06 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1909 for x64-based Systems (KB4560960)

Nirsoft’s “Windows Updates History Viewer” shows the same.

The WRE uninstall tool doesn’t say which update is getting uninstalled.
Is there any way to tell after the fact?

Looking at the Master Patch list for June 2020 shows that I don’t have that SSU KB4560959 mentioned in earlier posts.

Could that have been the one uninstalled?
Or did the uninstall not actually do anything, even though it said “Done”?

A quick look inWindows own Event Viewer, Applications and Service Logs\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdateClient\Operational, showed the same two updates installed 7-12.

So it seems that the WRE supposed uninstall of the “Latest Quality Update” actually didn’t do anything. But why did it run a while and say it was “Done”?

And following PKCano’s tip in another thread, using Control Panel, Programs adn Features, Installed Updates, I see that it shows the KB4556799 May Cumulative was installed 7-15, vs. what View Update History shows as “Sucessfully Installed on 6/2/2020.”

whose last few lines are shown here:

Security Update KB4560959 NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM 7/13/2020
Security Update KB4561600 NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM 7/13/2020
Update          KB4556799 NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM 7/15/2020

That answer gives a similar command to remove a specific update.

And running the command before and after letting the WRE do would show if or what anything was done.

The Servicing Stack KB4560959 is bundled with the Cumulative Update KB4560960, but you never see the Servicing Stack listed in the update queue.
The SSU presents itself as the CU during the install, hence KB4560960 appears to install twice (but it really doesn’t).
If you look in the Installed Updates (Control Panel\Programs & Features\View installed updates, you will find that each installed only once.

C’mon, it’s Microsoft. 🙂

Talk about never seeing it listed —  First item in that list, “Security Update”, also is a SSU.
