MSE updates has added Current Channel (Broad) as of 10/24/23

Hi All,

My 2 Windows 7 machines are working great these days and have a lot of security features I have added. Please refrain from reminding me that Windows 7 is out of service.

Yesterday noticed that a new phrase has been added to the daily, or twice daily, MSE updates, that says Current Channel (Broad).

I googled the phrase but didn’t find any answers as to what it means. If anyone knows, please let me know.

It has to do with corporate use of defender – that is you want to have some on a deployment so that a/v def updates are deployed as soon as possible.  But there may be false positives .

Current channel broad – means it’s the release that most people are getting and it’s broadly released.  By this time the bugs have been worked out and you are getting stable antivirus releases.

Does that help to clarify it’s use?

And I’d still recommend that you buy a cheap tablet for surfing purposes.

Dear Susan,

I too have been using  win 7  and I see from your post above that those broad/recommended downloads for defender included the microsoft 365 -which I do not want and it was about this time in oct I started having issues. 2 questions – I have not given permission for this “recommended”, automated downloads and I have the check box to notify me-but do not download, they did/do anyhow. 2nd, how do I delete those with 365? I am a home user not business/corporate. Thank you in advance.
