I used the laptop last night  with no problem  but today there is no wifi connection.  Device Mgr says it’s OK but I find a code 10.  Failed to start.

Error 10 is generic error, that the device could not be started.

Is your “airplane mode” off? Also check the button on your notebook.

Did you get any updates recently? It could be driver problem.

Suggest that you try a “Restart” (but NOT a shutdown/startup in case you have “Fast Startup” enabled).

      This often “fixes” faults.

Wireless does not even show in device manager anymore. Bluetooth is also gone When I go to Bluetooth in settings it says Bluetooth is turned off but there is no switch to turn it back on as there used to be.

Click on start, settings, update and security, view update history. Was anything recently installed? In the early days of feature releases I would lose my wifi/bluetooth and would have to use another computer to download a firmware update from Lenovo to get it working.

Download 3 critical updates for dell 7786 to phone.  Transfered to laptop.  One won’t run because it says it would be a downgrade from current version.  One has critical error and won’t  complete.  The third runs but doesn’t change anything.

      airplane mode

Do you have a new Dell XPS 13 ?

    • #2354720

Not airplane mode.  Bluetooth not listed in device Mgr at all.  Wireless says driver is the latest, but it won’t  start.  Downloaded latest drivers and installed for both.  No better.  Will refreshing Win 10 install help?

      I do have a Dell

If it is a new Dell XPS 13 with an AX500 network card, there are well known problems waking up from long sleep or hibernation.  Try to hibernate again, and restart immediately.

There is no known complete fix as far as I know.

Try resetting the network first.  Shouldn’t need an OS refresh/reinstall, whatever.

Settings (Gear Thing)>Network and Internet>Status    Network reset at bottom of Status page.

Not sure how many Dells/Alienwares we have, lots of them.  This usually fixes things.

Long shot is to reboot router/modem, then recalcitrant device.

Assuming there’s no VPN or other program installed that can firewall network, weird things can happen with those programs, sometimes they have to be uninstalled/reinstalled.

Have you thought about replacing the WiFi module?
I have seen few faulty wifi modules. You can try WiFi USB adapter, if that works. It can be hardware problem.

Would that affect my Bluetooth as well?  I have considered An outboard wifi adapter.  Dell support offered me software support for $90.

Windows 10 has built-in troubleshooters for both Bluetooth and Network Adapter (choose Wi-Fi).

Give those a try at Settings, Update & Security, Troubleshoot, Additional troubleshooters.
