Hello all,
I do most of the “Tech Support” for my relatives as a hobby so I’m versed but not an expert or formally trained.
My daughter is a work-from-home Online Triage Nurse for Hospice.
Currently I have her set up with Desktop PC to 3 Monitors and her Work Laptop is on a separate monitor. Her work laptop is Corporate managed so we cannot add printers or any other peripherals for connectivity/networking. All systems are hardwired to ISP internet.
Her husband is also a Hospice Company manager and uses a corporate laptop that I have just recently purchased the same Laptop Multi-monitor dock he uses at work for home use. He also has a Desktop with dual monitor.
ISSUE: I could not figure out an immediate quick way to setup multi-monitor switching to allow both Desktop and Docked Laptop to switch dual monitors between devices. Since he had two physical desks I suggested we just get two more monitors and leave the Laptop docked to them on the other desk. They are close enough to simply pivot chair to access each system comfortably.
QUERY: Can anyone suggest a hardware solution that would allow me to setup switching from two systems to multi-monitor (4 currently) for my daughter as she only has one desk/credenza.
The Laptop will use a Pluggable UD-3900C4 Laptop Dock with USB-C input to 4 HDMI Output. Laptop currently uses straight HDMI internal GFX Card output to one monitor.
The Desktop currently uses 1 HDMI and 2 DP-to-HDMI active cables to 3 Monitors using internal GFX Card.
So the need is for some type of switch/splitter sitting between the monitors and the Laptop dock and the Desktop that would accept all 4 monitors and then allow to toggle between the two systems for input. With the input of the Laptop from the docking station.
I thought at first a KVM but with the Corporate managed Laptop I don’t know if it will accept KVM inputs/connections. And with the need for DP-HDMI conversion from the Desktop I don’t know if there is a switch/splitter that has that many options between two system inputs.
If this is one of those “you can’t get there from here” situations right off the bat due to the different connection types please feel free to save me the trouble up front. But if this is something anyone has had to solve already please let me know.
Thank You
