Need to update email Id in iPhone & iPad

Hi. I have had a Hotmail email ID for years.  It’s been compromised so I created a new email alias on Microsoft.  I changed my Apple ID to the new email today. That went well, I logged out and then back in on iCloud, apps, everything seems to be synced or re-syncing (I have too many photos!!)

The email address in my mail app is still the original.  I am using the Apple Mail app not Outlook.  With the alias, it’s the same Microsoft account, just a different email ID. Should I add the new email to iOS & switch to using that? I wasn’t sure if that would work because it technically is not a different email ID.  Or should I delete the old email and add the new one?

And then, what happens if delete the email from my devices? Does everything come back when I logon with the new ID?  If I take this route what is the correct way to safely delete the old and add the new email ?  My new email is outlook.com – which shouldn’t matter Microsoft sees them as the same account.

When I added the original hotmail, I think I did it by adding ‘other’ email account. I don’t think I used Outlook or exchange, but now I don’t remember! So any help with this would be appreciated. Thanks!

Have you deleted the compromised email account? If so, you probably ought to change the Mail app to the new alias.

I deleted the old email from my phone and added the new email id this morning. New email is an outlook exchange email (old email was hotmail – still exchange). Now, when I bring up mail accounts on IOS,  it still shows the old email under “Account”. When I change that to the new one, it reverts back to the old one. When I send an email, it is still from the old hotmail id.   The hotmail id is still valid on my Microsoft account, technically they are the same account, just different aliases.  I am going to keep my old hotmail id for a while until I notify everyone of the new email.

So yes, I’ve deleted the old & added the new email on my iphone. I have not updated the ipad yet.  How can I get my new email to be the primary email on IOS mail app? I have not updated my ipad yet.

So the Apple mail app would not recognize my new email id after searching online, posting on forums, trying some things – even though my Apple id/Icloud is updated with it.  I finally downloaded Outlook app and all is well.  I actually like the Outlook app!! I was not unhappy with Apple mail – but this setup is just fine and is working exactly as I need it to!
