New HD addition??

Building my own systems, I’ve always used WD drives. I do have a 1gb SSD for C:, but the others are 3.5 hard platters. I run (2) 7200rpm drives for storage and data, and doing a lot of video lately. My recent WD Blue 2tb drive is getting full and thought, why not get another 4tb Blue (or bigger) and put it in as well. WD has them, but now only 5400rpm. Not sure it’s a deal breaker but being this is a home unit, would it be just fine for my use. All programs are run on C: and data stored on the slaves. I can still get a 2tb Blue, but seems a waste. Doubt I really need the Black versions. Advice??

System: Windows 10Pro 64bit, PRIME Z390-P, 2.9 i5-9400F, 16mb Ram

Just my two cents’ worth… I use mostly 5400 RPM hard drives and have never had one fail to keep up with the read-write load.

The most intensive thing I do, R/W-wise, is recording the signal from four cable channels at the same time for our media PC. The HDD has always been able to perform all that jumping back and forth without a problem.

As they say, YMMV (your mileage may vary), but we’ve had good experience with the 5400’s.

More importantly, is it SMR or CMR. SMR is much slower on sustained writes so your use will determine what you get.
