    I recently purchased a new laptop: HP ProBook 450 G5 15.6″ Laptop Computer – Silver Intel i5-8250U

    Processor    Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-8250U CPU @ 1.60GHz, 1800 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
    BIOS Version/Date    HP Q85 Ver. 01.01.07, 10/17/2017
    NVIDIA GeForce 930MX 2GB DDR3;
    8GB RAM; 1TB 5,400RPM Hard Drive
    Window 10 Pro 1703 Build 10.0.15063.502

    I’ve been using HP Support Assistant and HP SoftPaq Download Manager to get the drivers and so forth up to date, but I’ve so far left Windows 10 on hold.  I’ve set my Wifi as a metered connection, and set Windows update to maximum deferrals–Current branch for business, 365 days on feature updates, 30 days on quality updates.

    Looking for advice on what is the best version to upgrade to.  I saw in a reply to another post that support for 1703 ended on October 9, 2018.  I had thought to update to the September update for 1703, and then look to see what to do next, but I am wondering if that is the best option now.

      I have just upgraded two HPs (a laptop and a desktop) from 1703 to 1709 in the last month. Considering the problems MS has caused with HP driver updates pushed through Windows Update for 1803 and 1809 in October, I’m glad I stopped with that version. 1709 seems pretty stable at this point.

      You definitely want to stay away from 1809 any time in the near future.

        Thanks for the recommendation.  With the reported problems (BSOD) on 1803 and 1809 on HP systems for the latest releases due to Microsoft pushing faulty drivers, I will definitely be avoiding those two for now.

      Dear Sirs,

      I came across that I will have to migrate Win10 from 1703 to 1709, also considering the agreed advise above to stay at least two versions behind the field_test(ing) of MS, due to not receiving security updates by MS for EOS to 1703 as of Tuesday this week.

      Can you pls. advise me if I can find a threat here on how to migrate from 1703 to a version of choice: We stopped the forced version update in 2017 by claiming Enterprise Requirements protecting us from the roll-out after having rolled back from 1709 (initial version) due to performance issues. Thx. to “PKCano`s” advise back then.

      Now we suspect it will supply us the latest version (1809) when automatically initiated by update engine.

      Your help is very much appreciated in advance,

      Kind Regards,

      Settantanove

      it looks like woody has moved up from 1703 to 1803 a few weeks ago, Settantanove, so you could try to get 1803 instead of 1709
