Who is testing this stuff? And why didn’t it take more than five days to fix?

Same person who proofreads Computerworld articles?

The Microsoft True Believers singing the praises of Edge-over-Chrome hit a sour note. Their shiny new browser hiccuped. Again. Not because Edge is necessarily bad, but because Microsoft can’t seem to get its patching act together. Again.

The choir you apparently heard in your dreams were not New Edge users, as Edge Can/Dev (Chromium) weren’t affected:

The issue only affects Internet Explorer and Edge (original) though, not other browsers including Edge (Chromium).

so, uk citizens living outside the UK needing to access HSTS govt websites, using a different language device, how will this work? manual install or automatic? Does this work by language selected or country IP?
      Just curious..

On my Win8.1 machine in the US, KB4505050is offered as an UNCHECKED OPTIONAL update that I could check and install if needed.

the problem that arises here is, some people do not install optionals unchecked.

I have added KB4505050, the fix for IE11 HSTS for gov.uk websites for Win7/8.1,  to AKB2000003 for Group B and anyone else who needs to download it.

also a new patch for 1803 as well (KB4499183) [build 17134.799] – replaces KB4505064 update
      https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4499183/windows-10-update-kb4499183

The KB4497934 update for 1809 replaces the KB4505056 patch, so those gov.uk Win10 fixes for 1803/1809 are now rendered moot.

      direct quotes from KB4499183 v1803 and KB4497934 for v1809:

Starting with update KB4497934, we are introducing functionality that allows you to decide when to install a feature update. You control when you get a feature update while simultaneously keeping your devices up to date. Feature updates that are available for eligible devices will appear in a separate module on the Windows Update page (Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update). If you would like to get an available update right away, select Download and install now.

My server admin says that the newer version of W2K16 wasn’t in WSUS to replace the May 14th version

Ok, what’s with the “cumulative” thing anyway?

On one 1809 system that got offered KB4494441, I manually downloaded the KB4505056 .msu instead. Except, that one wouldn’t install, as in it said it doesn’t apply to this computer. (Localized message, not in English. Original install language local, same as in that dialog box; current user interface language and app default language was set to English/UK.)

Yes, checked that it was the correct architecture version (x64).

So. I conclude that KB4505056 is actually not a cumulative update then…? I mean, if it were, it should apply if you’d want to go from 17763 .475 or earlier to something that works with .gov.uk websites, right?

… right, apparently this was a SSU problem. Shouldn’t believe Microsoft about those.
Because even though Microsoft says both KB4494441 and KB4505056 have KB4499728 as a prerequisite, apparently being offered KB4494441 doesn’t mean you have the prerequisite…
