I did not get the free newsletter. I subscribe to both the paid and the free. I originally signed up with different email addresses but the free newsletter was not getting delivered. Then I changed to get both copies at the same email.

Must I sign up again because probably when you saw the same email address twice, one of them was scrubbed?

I signed up for both because I’m thinking of dropping the paid version. I don’t run Windows 10 nor 11 so most of the current newsletter content doesn’t apply to me.

… when you saw the same email address twice, one of them was scrubbed?

        Excellent question.

The Plus and Free lists are different, handled by different mailing services. If you didn’t get the free edition, just sign up for it again, using whatever email address you like. Your Plus membership will not be affected.

There is a lot to say about Windows 11 right now. But we cover Windows and Microsoft more generally, not one specific version. I certainly hope you’ll continue as a Plus member not only for our broad coverage, but also because without the donations from loyal members, there would be no free edition at all.

Just a kind reminder, donating to the newsletter is also donating to the site. Which means you are helping to pay for the forums as well.  We don’t just cover Windows topics but other tech news in a detailed fashion.

Reading this topic reminded me that it was time to renew my plus membership, which I **thought** expired on Jan 14, 2022.  But, after completing the “extend membership” process, I was surprised to see my revised expiration date as Jan 14, 2024!   My records indicate that my previous payment was 11/28/20, extending me to 2022.

I bring this to your attention, just in case I’m NOT having a “senior moment”!

Happy holidays to you and yours!

I signed up for the free newsletter again, since I didn’t receive it the last two Mondays.

May I ask why anyone who gets the paid newsletter would want the free version as well.

I don’t claim to know but I suspect it has something to do with having a fallback. If something goes horribly wrong with paid newsletter delivery, the arrival of the free newsletter serves as a “sideways” reminder. Note that the mailing services for the two newsletters are different.

We do have some plans to improve our subscriber management system. It’s not something we can share right now but an example might be automatically switching a subscriber from paid to free when the paid is not renewed. We’ve also thought about allowing a subscriber to opt-in to the free newsletter even if receiving the paid newsletter.

None of this is cast in stone and such changes are not coming quickly, as we have other priorities at the moment.

Because I post at various sites to help people and if I want to direct someone to a solution, I want to quote the allowed part of the free newsletter rather than quoting the paid newsletter. I’m careful to supply only what is shown freely.

I’m happy to report that yesterday both newsletters appeared again. So I’m safely back on both mailing lists.
