Hello everyone:
A colleague of mine has an interesting problem that I haven’t been able to find a satisfactory answer for by other means. He is running the current version of W2K Pro and OE. This was his first problem:

Running Windows 2000 Pro with current version of Outlook Express. When I start the machine and go on-line to check e-mail I have to manually enter my password. Next time in the day I dial up, the password is remembered. It only happens when I start the machine or when I unload OE and then restart the program. I’ve checked all the settings and it should “remember password.” I know in Win98 you could simply delete the .pwl files and it cured the problem. Anyone know how to fix this annoyance in Windows 2000?

I directed him to this MSKB article (Q264672). However, when he goes to his Control Panel to open the Mail/Fax applet, there is none, in that there is only a Fax icon. And despite making the registry changes and working around the missing CP icon, the vanishing password problem persists. He still must reenter the password the first time he open OE in the current session.
Does anyone have any ideas?
