When I either save or open files in Office 2000 Premium, it takes 10-15 seconds or more for the open/save dialogue box to appear. This is especially annoying when saving e-mail messages to my hard drive in Outlook. The delay only seems to occur when I am using an Office 2000 program. Does anyone have any idea as to what could cause the delay?

What operating system are you using, what class of PC (i.e., Pentium III 500Mhz, etc.), what size of hard drive, and how much free space do you have on the drive? Is your machine stand-alone or networked? Do you have any other version of office installed as well, or is Office 2000 the only version on your machine? Are you running the Office shortcut bar or starting the programs from the Start menu or from desktop icons?

All those things can have a bearing on Office performance.

Turn off journalling in Outlook. Tools/Options/ Preferences tab/Journal Options… Make sure your not tracking anything.

      Hope this helps.

Thanks to both of you who responded for your suggestions. As it turned out I had to do a complete reinstall of Win98, which in turn necessitated reinstalling Office 2000 Premium. For now the problem is fixed. But I will keep a copy of your ideas in case the problem arises again.
