How do I install the August patches without getting the September ones?
I’ve been routinely backing up my drive before every Windows update. Is that overcaution?
Just for the record, the last month or two, I’ve noticed that everything has slowed down on my Win 7 box. It takes almost five minutes to reboot. (My XP box loads twice as fast now!) And programs often hang and say “Not Responding.” At first I blamed it on having too many tabs open in Firefox. So I installed a tab suspender addon https://add0n.com/tab-suspender.html. But then it started happening in Chrome also. And even if I didn’t have more than one tab open in either browser. (I can’t remember how I did it, but I followed instructions I found to set Chrome to suspend unused tabs.)
That was on my home machine. Then I noticed a slowdown on computers at my office. I’d type a letter in Word 2016 and I’d get the spinner and the letter would show up a second or two later.
(On the plus side, at home, when Windows boots now, MSE is usually automatically updated. For a few months I had to do manual updates from an MS website.)
Is the slowdown MS’ revenge for not going to Win10?
Thanks, Morty

ManagerThe quote above is for September OFFICE patches from today’s Blog post not for August WINDOWS patches. The September Office security patches and Windows patches will not be released until next week. Anything marked SEPTEMBER (2017-9) gets UNCHECKED = WILL NOT INSTALL when you run WU.

A few months ago, I went over to Group A. Since then, things are easier, but slower.
