Buy new, hard to get the paste off all the pins and out of the holes.

Before you wonder "Am I doing things right," ask "Am I doing the right things?"

Tell them Yes, they need to cover all the pins. In fact really slather it on, you cannot get enough thermal paste! If it still doesn’t run cool enough create a little mountain of thermal paste on top of the CPU. If that doesn’t work, fill the entire system enclosure with thermal paste. Have it oozing out of the fan ducts and everything!

Also, more cowbell! I’ve got a fever and the only cure is more thermal paste!!

      More cowbell!

Need more paste. Any kindergartner knows paste makes things stick together. If you can still remove the CPU like that, you didn’t use enough paste.

As my old mate “Pom” Henderson used to say, “there ain’t no excuse for stupid…”.

Best suggestion is to tell them to just unplug the computer and let it cool down completely for about 20 years or so, then try it again and see if it works better.

Always good to wait for the half-life to dwindle.

Ahhh, another Id10T error. Tell the client, if all else fails, read the instructions.

Don't take yourself so seriously, no one else does 🙂
