I am running a server quite happily on 8.1.

After something stopped a Win 10 upgrade I followed the philosophy of “if it ain’t stuffed don’t play with it”.

Unfortunately I am involved in a project that relies on thousands of images that are shared across a group of people which I control. We use onedrive for storing and sharing as we had gifted a group Microsoft 365 package.

Alas MS in its wisdom doesnt allow for multiple accounts for one drive on 8.1 and requires one drive to match tbe login of the current user.

So first things first apart from using online browser based access I have no way to just copy files into a directory and have the onedrive service update in the background. I bave to copy files in manually drag and drop.

Doesnt sound like much but believe me it becomes mundane after a while when your doing 20 things at once during the day.  So is there an alternative ?????

Currently I am using dropbox to do this auto storage as I work. Its the ideal scenario for me but the group uses one drive so theres an extra couple of  steps involved.

The other alternative is to download all the files onto my local drive but even thats a pain as each image is around 800kb, onedrive runs home to momma if you ask it to download all 1200 thus far images from a main suppositry online. 75 at a time.

Any suggestion on managing one drive from 8.1 in the same fashion as Win 10 gratefully welcomed.

Eh… what? (Aside from the weirdness of running a server on a non-server version anyway…) OneDrive for Business should work just fine with 8.1 still.

Are you using the personal OneDrive for this? If so, you may get somewhere with the “shared with” settings, but that’s just weird… also would advise you to double-check the license terms.

Yes, there are other clients for OneDrive but AFAICT none of them works exactly like the MS application in 10.

Rclone for example doesn’t have 2-way sync, but does have mount (“map drive letter”). Complicated to install, doesn’t have any integration with the graphical parts. https://rclone.org/, https://rclone.org/onedrive/, https://rclone.org/commands/rclone_mount/

I have no experience with the commercial tools, such as for example Odrive https://www.odrive.com/ … that one says it has sync with multiple cloud storage providers, but some sync features require a “premium” account with Odrive in addition to the storage service used.
