Outlook on Vista

I have a Vista machine that I use to run Outlook for my Pop3 e-mail acconts.

I have two accounts.  One with Verizon.net and one with Bellsouth.net

About a week ago the Bellsouth.net account stopped working with the connection to the server timing out.  I have not been able to get it working during the ensuing time.

Any ideas?

I, too, am using Outlook on a Vista machine, even including a Verizon.net account. (However, I don’t have a Bellsouth.net account.)

The first thing that comes to mind is to try to check your Bellsouth.net email via your browser. That will start narrowing down the possible sources of the problem.

A second idea is that maybe Bell South changed the incoming/outgoing email port or encryption settings and you need to tweak them in your Outlook. Look around their website for announcements related to these kinds of changes. Verizon did the same thing a few years back and the transition went fairly smoothly.

About a year ago – when they got integrated with Yahoo they issued instructions to change some settings – which I did.  E-mail with the Bellsouth account had worked fine up to about a week ago – then I get the Server has timed out error.

Everything makes it look like my Bellsouth account has been blended into my Yahoo account.  Without any specific notice.

Bellsouth/ATT have been using yahoo for mail for years now.

Whether it’s Bell South or Yahoo that’s providing the email service you’re having problems with, can you go online with a browser and see your email that way? Since you report that you can’t get your email for this account on your Outlook, we’re trying to see whether the problem is at their end or at your end. For example, if you can’t check your email even after going online with a browser, then the problem could be with their servers and not your Outlook.

Have resorted to using Web mail for the accounts since it appears POP3 is no longer being supported.
