      Thank you very much for looking into this. I have already been looking for details today but could not find much. One particular thing I am interested in is whether I can buy exteended support for Windows 7 Ultimate. I use it in my small business and chose it for a good reason: I can easily switch between languages. For me it is not a comsumer product, but a business product. Switching languages was only also available in the Enterprise version which, of course, was not an option for my small business. I am hoping Microsoft will treat me like a business, but I do not trust them much though…

        Ultimate edition was intended to be supported (the early ESU FAQ papers mentioned it
        and actually, the installed ESU MAK keys licenses include Ultimate edition

        but it seems they retreated the decision and it’s not officially supported

          Thanks. That would be a bummer, but in line with what I wrote about trusting Microsoft. Are you certain? What is your source for this?

          Assuming you installed November Monthly Rollup, run this in command prompt:

          wmic Path SoftwareLicensingProduct Get Description, Name /value

          you shall notice these entries:

          Description=Windows Operating System – Windows(R) 7, VOLUME_MAK channel
          Name=Windows(R) 7, Client-ESU-Year1 add-on for Enterprise,Professional,EnterpriseN,ProfessionalN,Ultimate

          you will get another two for Year2 and Year3

          and these entries represent “For Embedded Systems” support, but that’s another story and not for normal clients

          Name=Windows(R) 7, Client-FES-ESU-Year1 add-on for Professional,ProfessionalE,ProfessionalN,Ultimate,UltimateE,UltimateN

      I tried to get details about prices, but one CSP told me, that the price list isn’t available. Another told me, that it’s NDA for partner and customers. Incredible, what Microsoft is doing there – they promised to sell ESU packages from Dec. 2, 2019, but their partners doesn’t know the price (at least here in German).

      What I heared from another source who claim to stay anonoymous, that the prices leaked to the Internet early 2019 are not false. Then I’ve seen today a screenshot of a ‘preliminary entry’ of a price list without more explanations, which proofs the previous statement.

      I’ve published some details at Windows 7 Extended Security Update (ESU) program available

      They just posted the price list on 12/1.  Amy is investigating now.  If you have a CSP go back to them and ask.  I’m seeing $50 for one year for pro.

      Strangely enough at least in The Netherlands, the Ultimate version is NOT supported. Besides, the whole process of activating / buying extended support is extremely cumbersome. Good moment to rethink building your business on Microsoft dependency, many will have learnt their lesson.

      Windows 7 support will cost and have similar terms as Windows Xp support that still is support until 2025 for any government or companies that pay in 7+ figure support to MS. This is how MS is making profit now support old OS.

      Yeah, but in latest FAQ, only Professional and Enterprise are listed as eligible
      https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4527878/faq-about-extended-security-updates-for-windows-7

      and in the purchase thread, you may notice that Ultimate was erased from the descriptive images
      https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Windows-IT-Pro-Blog/How-to-get-Extended-Security-Updates-for-eligible-Windows/ba-p/917807

      so, either they just added it for internal testing, or it’s a retracted decision

      But their copy editors didn’t make the job in an proper way. As I mentioned within my article Windows 7 Extended Security Update (ESU) program available go to the header of the FAQ and click in the line enumerating the eligible SKUs. Currently you will find:

      FAQ about Extended Security Updates for Windows 7

      Applies to: Windows 7  Windows 7 Enterprise ESU  Windows 7 Professional ESU Windows 7 Ultimate ESU Less
      Within my German blog post I linked to a comment from a (German) reader. It seems that they currently not support Ultimate.
      But there is also a note within my blog post, addressing something ‘magic’ (that seems to make also Home and Ultimate eligible. Cite:
      Blog reader Ismail has linked a script/tool in this comment that can at least bypass the checks that prevent the installation of the ESU test update. Whether this will still work in February 2019 remains to be checked at that time.
      Hope it helps.

        Thanks, i didn’t see the header
        still, Ultimate is not yet very promoted for ESU

        i’m aware of the bypass tool 🙂

        Thanks. If MS does not want to play it nicely for Ultimate users, I may going to play it not nicely too with the updates.

        However, be aware that the download links provided in the forum post you linked are already superseded. The most recent download is included in the opening post of that thread.

      Thanks, Susan!  I’ve been in Group B past few years.  My PC is Win Pro 7 (single OEM license).  What’s the step by step process to get your PC activated for Win 7 Pro extended support (and if you’re in Group B so far, what should we download/install before progressing to activating/purchasing the Win 7 Pro extended support?).  [Since we’re still at Defcon 2, I’ve held off downloading/installing the KB 4525233 Win 7 Security only patch and KB 4525106 IE Nov security patch.]   Very appreciative!

      Do I understand the earlier quotes correctly?

      semi-quote: You can buy the licenses but you can’t tell anyone what you paid?  NDA

      semi-quote: In Germany at least the price is $50/license?

      Is there a bottom line?
