I am afraid that I liked the old format better, with everything in one long sheet, although it was html, not PDF or Excel. It was a simply matter to scroll quickly down the html sheet to the segment dedicated to that month’s updates to the system one was interested in. Also easier for me to read at a glance about those updates and see which or “OK” to install and which was better “No” — and why. The new PDF format, on which quite a bit of work, I am quite sure, goes every month, when open on the MPT Web page looks really small and the letters, tiny. One has to download that PDF just to be able to read it without straining one’s eyes and see what is in there that might be of interest to oneself. I imagine that, for some people, the new format can be quite useful. Unfortunately, it does not work so well for me.

But, as long as the information one needs to know is there, whatever the format, I am thankful to Susan for its monthly delivery. So, please, Patch Lady, keep up the good work.

Ex-Windows user (Win. 98, XP, 7); since mid-2017 using also macOS. Presently on Monterey 12.15 & sometimes running also Linux (Mint).

First of all, thank you Susan, the Patch Lady, for good work.
For me, it was also useful html format, but now I’m very used to the new XLS format, where we could quickly find the Windows/Office/Exchange/… versions we actually use and see the corresponding updates for the last months.

P.S. Please correct the typo: Win 10 version 1903 – 4507543 to 4507453 🙂

P.S.2. Btw, maybe it will be useful to add in the Patch List for KB 4512506 Monthly Rollup – the info from Microsoft: “Currently, KB3133977 is required as a workaround for a known issue when using EFI Boot”, and also about “The latest SHA-2 update (KB4474419) released August 13, 2019″ ?

Thanks Susan for your new idea which I like.  Can see at a glance without scrolling about, especially on a mobile for oldies like me. August office patches easier to find. On your latest patches I am unable to find in  pre windows 10, Windows 7 rollups etc but all I see is windows 2008 SP2 am I missing  something?  Cheers

I like the Excel spreadsheets, with everything in a long list, but also with individual tabs. I’m on Windows 8.1 with Office 2013 Click-to-Run, so I use the pre-Win10 spreadsheet. I also use the Office/Exchange/Sharepoint spreadsheet, but only the Office Click-to-Run tab. I can see if someone supports multiple Windows versions & possibly multiple Office versions that they would want a month at a time. As I said, I’m good with long lists in tabbed Excel spreadsheets; gives me quick access & can review previous months easier.

Bought a refurbished Windows 10 64-bit, currently updated to 22H2. Have broke the AC adapter cord going to the 8.1 machine, but before that, coaxed it into charging. Need to buy new adapter if wish to continue using it.

I look for your advice every month and wait until you give the all-clear to patch.

As the security patches cover many different products, a lot are not ones that most Home users would have, I would separate them.

I much prefer the PDF (the locked header on the Excel just takes up screen space and for me Open Office must be opened to view the spreadsheet).
The one with all the August updates jumbled together is just plain annoying, have the updates segregated by O/S version is definitely the way to go.

Well I just tried the ‘HTML”https://www.askwoody.com/august-2019/ link but it seems to forward to here https://www.askwoody.com/forums/topic/august-2019/

I was trying to search for update KB4512501 and realized that it would be quicker from an html page with every thing on it then a AW search which is a bit lethargic although the AW search offers forum comments as well.

Strangely KB4512501 seems t be missing from the PDF version.

I really like the convenience of the “just” August updates so I can have everything in one place and just scroll down to see everything I need. Either the Excel or the pdf version works fine for me, since I can zoom in on the pdf to get it large enough to see.

Just fyi the pdf of the “just” August updates seems to be missing the Office 2010 updates.
Also, maybe I’m doing something wrong or have some odd setting, but when I click the html link on the “just” August updates, it just takes me back to this page: https://www.askwoody.com/forums/topic/august-2019/. Is that what I’m supposed to see?

That link does take me to the html list, and the link from the Master Patch list now works for me, too. I’m on a different machine now than when I wrote the earlier post and don’t currently have access to the others I was using then, so I don’t know if that had anything to do with it; but at any rate it does seem to be working for me now.

Oh, and yes, I was logged into my Plus account when I wrote the earlier post, too.

Thanks for all your hard work on these formats, and for all your work in general! Your Master Patch list is indispensable.

I think that for some people the just the current month spreadsheet (August) would be good since they might be mobile.  I also think that a searchable entire listing of the updates, for example one year, would be good to be able to find information on an update that you might have missed.  This list could be built up over the year.  Thank you for your excellent work on updates and letting the rest of know what to avoid and what to install.

Can I be the only one to have this problem? The “Installed updates” list takes an age to load, as does every search, and mostly I fail to find the KBnumber, so all I do is get frustrated. What this means is that I find great difficulty in checking against the Master List of recommendations, because either what I seem to have is not in the master list or vice versa. Does it make a difference for 64-bit Win7? Are the numbers different?
(“Update history” loads almost instantly, but a manual search through hundreds of ‘MSE – KB2310138’ updates is a bit tedious, and still makes no sense.)

Neither list appears to be exportable or copiable, which is also unhelpful. Any utilities out there to simplify this?

Firstly, Susan, thanks for all the work and guidance you give us. It is greatly appreciated.

I don’t feel tremendously strongly about the two different formats, but I tend to prefer the one that shows the full sequence of updates by OS, rather than the one that shows all August together. I am transitioning (if I am allowed to use that word) from Win 7 to Win 10 as I replace old hardware, so the separation by OS is helpful for me.

Of the formats, I use the Excel version, which I find slightly more readable than the pdf, and both are a lot better for me than the html version.

First, like all the others, thanks for the great information that has been put up over the years.

My preferred format is a spreadsheet with one sheet per OS rather than one file per patch month. Excel is more flexible so I can change column widths. I can also search per column rather than whole pdf especially for older KB patches.

One comment: Please turn on WrapText for Columns E & F (Special Notes and Description). The Office spreadsheet seems to be different.

I will mention it again. Please turn on Text Wrap on Column F, For example, the Windows 10 spreadsheet, worksheet 1803, cell F30 overflows into Column G; it is OK in this case but would be a problem where there is content in G30.

Two better examples: Windows 7, cell F40 and F41, part of the content is hidden. Windows 8.1, cell F39, F40. Windows 8.1 cell F24 and F25 are good. By turning on Wrap Text for the whole column it would be better.
