Good on them to roll this back, but let no one think this is anything but temporary. It shouldn’t have taken a backlash to undo it because it shouldn’t have happened in the first place. Before it became public policy, people inside the company should have stopped it. It was a tone-deaf move by what has morphed from a partially- to a fully tone-deaf company, and the fact that its reversal was prompted only by an external rather than an internal backlash guarantees more such policies over time.

Now if they could just roll back on their boneheaded decision to sneak in some telemetry spyware to the security only updates, that many of us were installing to avoid, that’d be super!
