Overnight a load of my downloaded files were changed to PDF files without my knowledge.  Can you please advise as I need them back as Microsoft Office files.

That happened to me once, when I used another browser to download a file. I remember renaming the extension from “pdf” to “docx” (without the quotation marks). Try one of your files to see if that works for you, using the relevant Office filename extension. Good luck.

I can’t see how files can be changed to PDF without some intervention.
More likely, you have associated DOC files with a PDF reader (do they files still have a DOC extension?).

See these instructions to change the association.

Use a free portable rename app to rename all .pdf to .xxx

Example : ReNamre, Portable Ant Renamer..

Thanks, Alex5723.  Sadly, I am unable to download apps onto my pc.

What do you mean by unable to download software ? It is managed and locked ?

Was the file extension changed from .docx to .pdf?

      or

Was the default app to open the file changed?
