Show me a Patch Tuesday and probably SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE has hit a printing issue.
I use a Samsung AIO CLX-3185FN Color Laser printer for the last ~10+ years (Windows 7, Windows 10).
The printer is connected to a USB Hub.
Never had a patch Tuesday printer problem.
The only problem I had moving from Windows 7 to Windows 10 was lack of scanner drivers, so I use Windows build-in ‘Windows Fax and Scan’.
HP stopped supporting the printer in 2021.
Printing, copy, faxing (my Fiber router has a Fax port)..works fine.
I’ve had an HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus AIO since before Windows 8 was released. I’ve upgraded the software to keep all the functions active, but even without those software upgrades the printer would still do basic printing. It was originally connected via Ethernet, but a couple of years ago I switched to WiFi so that I can print from my phone, or laptop when it’s not plugged into Ethernet.
The only issue I’ve had after a Windows update has been that the “Scan to computer” function wouldn’t work. The fix was to open the printer interface and restart “Scan to computer” and tic the box “Start when Windows starts”. No other fiddling has been required.
The only other issue I’ve had was a few months ago it got lost in WiFi. My modem/router/wifi showed it to be connected, but I couldn’t connect to it. The fix was to reboot the modem, and all was well.
I had a different problem after applying the January 2023 updates on Server 2022 Standard.
I have some production printer queues that have Tray 3 as the default (for labels), but after the update, the printer queue definition “forgot” that I had previously added Tray 3 as an option for each of these printers. After adding the printer tray (with Device Options) to each queue, the desired behavior returned.
But why would a Windows update clobber the device options? [Except that all of the printer code is now screwball.]
