@Woody:    I’ve tried 3 times to reply to a message Noel wrote, and I finally “give up”.   It just won’t do it, and there is “no way to delete the message”.    Even having a method to delete the message would have solved the problem.    Anything pending which would allow a “reply” to be deleted?       As always, thank you for all of the great work you do.   I don’t know what we would do without you!   🙂

You should always be able to delete a reply – but if you have a problem, email me with the reply number (upper right corner) and I’ll manually delete it.

I can see your post at https://www.askwoody.com/forums/topic/a-legitimate-looking-lawsuit-claiming-damages-for-the-win10-coerced-upgrade/#post-104676

@Woody:   Thank you so very much for the helpful information.  I see another message with help as well.    WONDERFUL!  I’m very grateful for you, and the others who provide much needed help to all of us!    🙂

In the upper right corner of the message you are trying to reply to, there is a number. You can reference that number in the reply
“Reply to post #104679” for example.

Also, there is a button that says “TRASH.” If you click on that it will remove the message. (Be careful not to click on “SP*M )

EDIT: Oops! TRASH ans SP*M are only available to MVPs. Sorry

You may wish to do a quick re-edit on #104684. Loungers don’t get to see the MVP options you do 🙂

Loungers get the option to Trash their own posts, but their edit time is limited. My screenshot didn’t show that, as I hadn’t created the post I copied 🙂

Likewise, Loungers can only Thank and Vote on others’ posts, not their own (I know that has caused confusion among some, when seeing screenshots).

@PKCano:    Thank you  very much for the helpful advice you have provided.    It is sincerely appreciated.   Your outstanding advice, and help to so many others is amazing, and the expertise you exhibit is greatly admired.    Thank you once again!   🙂

Walker, please make sure you first click REPLY, then QUOTE in order for a reply with a quoted message to be properly aligned. That bites me from time to time too and I end up with a message down at the bottom of the thread.

I have noticed some users/guests deliberately quoting without replying, where a thread has become quite narrow (after several replies to replies), if the post is going to be more than a line or two. This makes a full width post, which is easier to read, but does disrupt from the prior discussion.

Here’s what I’ve just verified for my case. If I use Edge, clicking on reply makes it impossible to enter text in the Visual mode and anything typed in the Text mode vanishes when I switch back to the Visual mode. After that I can’t switch back to the Text for a second time. In Firefox there are no such problems. Firefox has NoScript 5.0.2 as its only add-on with this site allowed whereas Edge has no add-ons at all. Normally I use Edge for sites that I have to sign into and Firefox for everything else.

Note: I first clicked REPLY, then QUOTE for this posting.

This issue seems to occur always and only when replying to the initial post.

I just tested this hypothesis in this test topic: https://www.askwoody.com/forums/topic/test-topic-2/.

        • #105860

Result: My reply to the first post in that thread was not put in the expected location.

Also note: the URL while writing a reply to the first post in a topic is incorrect.

Please note that when clicking Reply on the first topic post, you are creating a new post (the last part of the link shows “#new-post”), and do not get nested immediately under the first topic post. They appear in order, at the bottom of the thread.
Replies to replies are nested, which I believe you were expecting from replies to the first topic post.
This is the way that BBPress works, not a fault.

Thank you for explaining :). I had indeed expected that a reply to a first post should be nested. Perhaps this is the behavior that walker also expected?
