I’m just posting this in case anyone has the same problem. I recently updated Firefox to v37 and immediately had problems with video. Plug-in container kept crashing and I couldn’t change the volume; all my addins and whatnot are bang up-to-date.

I rolled back to v36.0.4 and the problem has gone away.

I just updated to 37 on my MacBook and no problem.

Plugin-container is Flash or another plugin that’s loaded and active.

Uninstall Flash and use their uninstall tool then install the latest version, details and direct links to the full, clean downloads are here: http://securitygarden.blogspot.co.uk/2015/03/adobe-flash-player-version-17-released.html

Download the uninstaller and full installer for Flash plugin, exit Firefox – check in Task Manager that it and any plugin-containers are gone then run the uninstaller first, followed by the fresh Flash installer. Install Firefox 37.01 and test.

If you still get crashes, use the ESR version of Flash:

What is the Extended Support Release?

Adobe makes available a version of Flash Player called the “Extended Support Release” (ESR) to organizations that prefer Flash Player stability over new functionality. We have created a branch of the Flash Player code that we keep up to date with all of the latest security updates, but none of the new features or bug fixes available in our current release branch. This allows organizations to ceritify and stay secure on Flash Player with minimal effort.

We recommend that companies focused on security and stability take a close look at this release option.

I just checked my Win7 with FF 36.0.1 and the Update feature says it’s up-to-date. Strange, my Win8.1 and Win10TP are updating to 37 now.

Hmm, W7 still has an issue with the FF update check, eh? No surprise really 🙁 But you should be on 36.04 anyway – typo?

Full EN US installer here: https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/latest/win32/en-US/

(Full ESR EN US (aka stable and secure) latest version here: https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/latest-esr/win32/en-US/)

No typo, Win7 did have version 36.0.1, Win8.1 had 36.0.1 and Win10 had 36.0.4. They are all now on 37.0.1.

Satrow, thanks for the tip in post 4, but I’ll stay where I am for a while. Thing is, v36.0.4 with the latest Flash is the zippiest FF I’ve ever had! 😀
